Year 4 — Lion and Leopard (Autumn 2) DT Canopic Jars RE Confirmation, World Religions and Advent/Gifts. Please see the RE newsletter for ideas of how to help at home. History/Geography Ancient Egypt and Egypt today Spelling and Grammar We will be exploring the geography of ancient and modern day Egypt and looking at the main geographical features. We will be learning about deserts’ ‘red land’ and the bank of the Nile’s ’black land’. We will be looking at maps of ancient Egypt and comparing that to what it is like today. This half term we will be looking at verb forms for different tenses, the difference between first and third person. We will also be exploring how to use independent and subordinate clauses. To help at home: Find out some facts about the Nile and about the Geography in Egypt. To help at home: Practise identifying different clauses in your reading book. Music Science Music Digestion and Teeth We will be working with a specialist music teacher to explore music. Across the year we will study Samba, African drumming and percussion. Invasion Games We will be practising our sending and receiving skills and developing simple attacking and defending tactics in mini game situations. To help at home: Encourage your child to be as active as possible at home. Ensure your child has their PE kit in school on the correct day each week. We will learn about the major organs of the digestive system and the way in which food is digested. We will explore how teeth play an essential part in enabling the digestive system to work efficiently. We will build on previous learning by comparing the teeth of carnivores and herbivores. To help at home: Use books and the internet to look at the digestive system and how it works. PE Dance We will be learning a dance based on our topic and choreographing it to music. Please take the opportunity to discuss and research these topics further with your child — thank you.
