the volk promise
Volk is known worldwide as the premier designer and manufacturer of precision diagnostic
and laser lenses. For over a quarter of a century, our goal has been to provide ophthalmologists and optometrists with products that enhance the value of their practice. We use a combination of cutting-edge technology and old-world craftsmanship to produce the finest quality
lenses and imaging systems available. Our innovative designs find their origins in the original
aspheric lens development work of our founder, Dr. David Volk. In fact, Dr. Volk developed
the first aspheric indirect ophthalmoscopy lens almost 50 years ago. The Volk 20D, along
with the 78D and 90D, are now the industry standards. Total customer satisfaction is our
commitment.
All lenses are not the same. It’s imperative that you obtain an image free
of distortion and optical aberration. This image demonstrates an actual
side-by-side comparison photo of a Volk 20D focused over a 2mm grid.

Volk’s 3rd generation Binocular Indirect Ophthalmoscopy (BIO) lenses. With advanced glass technologies and designs, these lenses deliver
enhanced views across the diagnostic spectrum, with wide field and high magnification views.
Using these advanced lenses will provide image quality previously unattainable with the binocular indirect method of examination to help reduce
overall examination time.
The technical specifications designed into these lenses position them around the industry standard 20D lens, delivering a higher magnification
and wider field of view than the 20D. The lenses are best utilized as a pair to exploit the combination of magnification and field of view these
lenses deliver for general diagnosis.

Fundus Laser Lens
This is an advanced fundus laser lens designed with Volk patented Double Aspheric optics for superior high magnification viewing and
treatment of the optic nerve head and macula. State-of-the-art computer designed aspheric optics provide improved performance over
existing fundus lens designs. The Volk Fundus Laser Lens comes standard with LaserWindow for optimal laser beam transmission and
imaging element protection. This unique feature also creates a “closed” system - protecting the imaging element from dirt, oils and debris
- ensuring precise laser placement.
®
Fundus 20mm Laser Lens
A variation of Volk’s standard fundus lens, the Fundus 20mm provides 1.44x magnification and has an increased 20mm contact element.
The lens is designed so that the contact element sits under the eyelids during examination and provides additional stability during laser
procedures. The Volk Fundus Lens comes standard with LaserWindow for optimal laser beam transmission and imaging element protection.

New Blumenthal Suturelysis Lens
The NEW Volk Blumenthal Suturelysis lens assists in suture removal after glaucoma surgery by enabling you to cut sutures that were
inaccessible with prior suturelysis lens designs. The lens magnifies the suture appearance 2 to 3 times - allowing enhanced visibility for
difficult situations, as well as smooth suturelysis in routine cases. The pointed tip provides a strong compressive force that adds to the
stabilization of the treated area. This feature provides particular benefit in patients with thick Tenon’s layer or a subconjunctival
hemorrhage.

3 Mirror
Volk 3 Mirror lenses incorporate 3 mirrors angled at 60°, 66° and 76°. The 3 Mirror is ideal for anterior chamber as well as central and
peripheral fundus viewing and treatment. The retinal viewing mirrors are accurately angled and spaced to eliminate “gaps” in the visualized
fundus. The central portion of the lens also provides direct observation of the central portion of the posterior pole. The Volk 3 Mirror Lenses
are available in Volk’s exclusive 18mm ANF+ (Advanced No Fluid) contact design, or the 15mm “No Flange” version for use on infants and
patients with narrow palpebral fissures. Please specify coating for Diagnostic / Laser lenses or the Uncoated Diagnostic version.
G-1 trabeculum
The Volk G-1 trabeculum, all glass design, provides the highest magnification of ANY gonioscopy lens in existence! Perfect for viewing
and treating the trabecular meshwork. One 62° mirror presents a good view of the anterior chamber angle while the central portion of the
lens can be used to view the posterior pole for signs of glaucoma and other central retinal maladies. The extended housing is optimized
for static or dynamic gonioscopy - reducing fatigue and promoting rotation on the globe with minimal effort. Available in standard (flange)
or glass NF (no-flange/no-fluid) design. Developed with Reay Brown, MD.
G-2 trabeculum
For those who prefer the versatility that a second mirror adds, then you may want to consider the all glass Volk G-2 trabeculum. It features
the same 1.5x magnification as the G-1 but offers two opposing mirrors angled at 60° and 64° respectively. Available in standard (flange)
or NF (no-flange/no-fluid) design. Developed with George Baerveldt, MD.
G-3 goniofundus
Volk’s G-3 goniofundus lenses incorporate 3 mirrors angled at 60°, 66° and 76°. The all glass 3 mirror design is ideal for anterior chamber
as well as central and peripheral fundus viewing and treatment. The retinal viewing mirrors are accurately angled and spaced 120° apart
to eliminate “gaps” in the visualized fundus. The central portion of the lens also provides direct observation of the central portion of the
posterior pole. Solid, all-glass design means no more fogging! Available in standard (flange) or glass NF (no-flange/no-fluid) design.
G-3 mini gonio fundus nf
Same design features as the standard G-3 but in a minified design that is ideal for examination and treatment of pediatric and small adult
patients. Its 9.6mm contact allows excellent maneuverability in the orbit. Developed with Julio A. Urrets-Zavalia, MD.
G-4 goniolaser
The G-4 goniolaser lens features 4 precisely angled 64° mirrors to deliver a complete view of the anterior chamber angle with slight rotation.
The standard fluid design (flanged glass contact element) provides a stable platform during laser treatment of the anterior segment.
New G-4 gonio nf (3 different all glass designs available)
The NF G-4 design features 4 precisely angled 64° mirrors to deliver a complete view of the anterior chamber angle with slight rotation and
a small 8.4mm radius contact surface that’s ideal for both static and dynamic gonioscopy. The NF (no flange/no fluid) design eliminates the
need for viscous interface solutions such as methylcellulose. Artificial tears or a thick natural tear layer is sufficient. The NF lens design is
available in three handle/ring styles: small hand held ring (25.5mm diameter), large hand held ring (29mm diameter), and the 2-in-1 handle,
which can be removed or re-attached to create a straight or 45° angled handle design.
NOTE: The “G” in G-Series mirrored lenses stands for Glass. Volk Glass G-series lenses provide superior clarity
and durability compared to acrylic or plastic lenses.

volk lenspen
®
The Volk LensPen is designed to clean any coated lens surface, on your BIO indirect, Non - Contact, Contact
Diagnostic / Laser, and G - Series lenses, as well as, adapters and filters. However, it is not intended for use
on surfaces that contact the eye. A retractable brush on one end of the pen removes loose particles of dirt. The
soft cleaning pad on the other end, impregnated with a no liquid carbon-based cleaning compound, wipes away
smudges, and reduces static charge build-up. This pad also stows away in the pen. The Volk LensPen is 7 inches
long and comes with a clip that attaches to any pocket.
Not for use on surfaces that contact the eye.

sterilization tray
Volk has developed two new sterilization trays for the safe, effective and convenient sterilization of your ophthalmic
lenses. The two trays are approved for use with ETO and conveniently house from 1 to 6 lenses at a time. Both
trays are also autoclave safe when used with “autoclavable” safe instruments.
The 2.7”x 1.5” x 1.25” (VCSA) sterilization tray is ideal for housing Volk’s surgical and smaller indirect & slit lamp
lenses. The 6.0” x 2.5” x 1.25” (VSCB) tray can house even the largest of Volk’s indirect lenses, a combination of
many lenses and sizes, and accessories including Volk’s new Infusion Handle.

Volk Patented Double Aspheric Lens Design
Aerial Image Plane
All Volk lenses are optically engineered using proprietary computer
ray tracing and design criteria. The laser contact lens ray tracing at left
shows light rays originating at the illuminated fundus and proceeding
through the pupil and cornea to the first contact element. The diverging light bundles are converged and redirected towards the double
aspheric imaging lens which further refracts and focuses the rays as
a conjugate fundus image in the aerial image plane. From the beginning on the drawing board to final production and sale, each Volk lens
is designed and produced to the quality standards that your practice
demands.
Volk Laser / Anti-reflective Coatings and Filters
Most Volk lenses come standard with high efficiency laser / anti-reflective (AR) coatings to optimize laser throughput and to
assist in diagnosis by reducing glare in the visible spectrum. Please check specific product descriptions for additional information on coating styles or non-coated diagnostic lenses
Standard Flange and No-Flange (NF) Designs
Volk uses both standard flange and no flange designs in our contact lenses. In general, the standard flange is designed to
stabilize the lens on the eye by creating suction between the contact element and the cornea. The standard flange usually
requires a viscous solution such as methylcellulose to fill in the “air gaps” and allow for easier removal of the lens from the
cornea. The added stability that the wider flange provides can be especially helpful during laser treatment or when a view of
a particular anatomy is required for a more extensive period of time. The fluid also may increase patient comfort for longer
procedures.
Volk also has no-flange (NF) versions available for many of our contact lenses. The smaller contact area of the no-flange
design allows more mobility on the cornea and may facilitate diagnosis of pediatric or small adult patients. No-flange designs
may or may not require the use of a viscous solution. The no flange versions of the Volk G-Series, for instance, are designed
so they do not require the use of a methylcellulose style lubricant. Fluid can be used, but artificial tears or a similar lubricant
should be sufficient. These designs may be more beneficial during diagnoses where patient sensitivity to the solution and exam
time are greater considerations.
In addition to the standard flange and no-flange designs, some lenses may have specially designed contact elements such
as the ANF+ that provide added benefits or have unique usage characteristics. Please refer to the specific product listings or
contact Volk for additional information.
Advanced No Fluid (ANF+) Contact Lenses
Volk’s new ANF+ Contact Lenses are specially designed to be used with the normal tear film as the fluid interface.
Methylcellulose or other viscous solutions need not be used. Each ANF+ corneal contacting surface incorporates a special
bi-aspheric contour that completely eliminates captive air bubbles. Its surface fits the cornea in a manner similar to that of a
small endpoint gonioscopy lens, yet offers complete eyelid control and lens stability by virtue of its full-size flange. Application
and removal of the lens is greatly facilitated (minimal corneal suction) and repeat applications are accomplished easily. The
cornea remains clear so that fundus photography or further diagnostic/therapeutic procedures may be performed immediately.
When ordering, specify Standard or ANF+ contact design.

Glass not plastic
Volk Lenses feature glass imaging elements, not plastic, to ensure the brightest, crispest views of ocular
structures without the haze and optical distortion associated with plastic lenses. This results in excellent
light transmission, edge-to-edge image clarity and unmatched depth perception. When purchasing your
next lens, ask what materials are used in its manufacture. Insist on Double Aspheric design. Insist on
glass...insist on Volk!
