Clarence (Buck) Brown is President and Chief Executive Officer of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando. He was
born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and grew up in Orlando, then attended Emory University in Atlanta where he graduated
with a B.A. degree in 1962 and an M.D., summa cum laude, in 1966. During his undergraduate years as a member of
the Beta Chi Chapter of Sigma Chi, he served as Quaestor, Pro Consul and Consul. He is a member of Alpha Omega
Alpha honor medical society. Dr. Brown trained in internal medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore,
completed a fellowship in hematology at Johns Hopkins and served as a clinical associate in medical oncology at the
National Cancer Institute. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Hematology. Following the completion of his
training, he became a member of the faculty of the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he was a Howard
Hughes Research Fellow.
In 1975, Dr. Brown returned to Central Florida to practice hematology and medical oncology. He has served as medical
director of the Hemophilia Association of Orlando and the Hospice of Central Florida. In 1988, Dr. Brown served as
President of the Orange County Medical Society. He has served on numerous boards in Orlando and is past-Chairman
of the Board of Directors of the Orlando Health Foundation. He has served on the Florida Division Board of Directors of
the American Cancer Society and as a delegate to the National Assembly of the ACS. From 20001 through 2003, Dr.
Brown was chairman of the Cancer Research and Advisory Council for the state of Florida, appointed by then-governor
Jeb Bush. He was named one of the “Best Doctors in America” from 1996 to 2010 and in 1998 was named one of the 25
most influential leaders in health care in Central Florida. He has been identified by Orlando Magazine as one of the
“Best Doctors in Orlando” and by Orlando Business Journal as a “Who’s Who in Health Care”. In 2002, he was inducted
into the William R. Boone High School (Orlando) Athletic Hall of Fame.
Dr. Brown was the founding medical director of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando, the first outreach affiliate of the
renowned M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston that started in 1991 and in 1997 he became the cancer center’s
president and chief executive officer. Dr. Brown is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Blood and Marrow
Transplantation, University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and Professor of Medicine, University of Central
Florida College of Medicine.

Danielle Courtenay joined Visit Orlando in February 1995. As Chief Marketing Officer, she develops the brand strategy
and leads a global marketing team that creates domestic and international integrated leisure marketing to increase
overnight visitation. She also is responsible for destination marketing to position Orlando as a key meetings and
conventions destination, oversees corporate communications, public affairs and digital strategy. Previously she was the
vice president of an advertising and public relations agency that specialized in travel and tourism.
She has served in multiple volunteer positions with the Public Relations Society of America, Society of American Travel
Writers and Destination Management Association International and serves as the chair of the United States Travel
Association Communications Council, on the Alliance for Arts and Culture board of directors, Junior Achievement board
of directors, the advisory board for TravelCom and on the Executive Leadership Council for Go Red for Women. She
was just awarded the Gene T. Hassett award by Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI), named
one of HSMAI’s Top 25 Minds in Hospitality & Travel Sales Marketing and Innovator of the Year by TravelCom.
She has earned the Accredited Public Relations designation and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations
from Auburn University and Masters of Science degree in Marketing Communication from Florida State University.

Dr. Robert Gennaro is Professor Emeritus and Associate Director of Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, College of
Medicine. His area of specialization is Infectious Diseases and Microbial degradation of waste product. Prior to his
current position, Dr. Gennaro was the Professor and Associate Dean of the Burnett College of Biomedical Sciences
(2004 – 2007). He has also served as Professor and Interim Associate, Dean College of Health and Public Affairs,
University of Central Florida (1999 – 2004); Professor and Chair, Dept. of Molecular Biology and Microbiology University
of Central Florida (1990 – 1995); Associate Professor and Chair, Dept. of Biological Science University of Central Florida
(1989 – 1990); Associate Professor and Graduate Program Coordinator, University of Central Florida (1895 – 1989);
Associate Professor, University of Central Florida (1975 – 1986); and Assistant Professor, Florida Technological
University (1970 – 1975).
In 1963, Dr, Gennaro received a B.S. in Biology from New Mexico State University, a M.S. in Biology from New Mexico
State University in 1965 and Ph.D. in Microbiology from Texas A & M University, in 1972.

Deborah German grew up in Rhode Island. She earned her M.D. degree from Harvard Medical School, was a Resident
in Medicine at the University of Rochester in New York, and was a Fellow in Rheumatic and Genetic Diseases at Duke
University in Durham, North Carolina. She became a faculty member at Duke and was an Associate Investigator at the
Howard Hughes Medical Institute at Duke research adenosine metabolism. She was Director of the Duke Gout Clinics
and Associate Dean of Medical Education at Duke. Dr. German also maintained her own private practice of Internal
Medicine and Rheumatology.
In 1988, Dr. German joined Vanderbilt University as Associate Dean for Students and later Senior Associate Dean of
Medical Education. She next served as President and Chief Executive Officer at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
She was also Senior Vice President and Chief Academic Officer for Saint Thomas Health Services. While there, Dr.
German led a successful hospital turn-around and initiated service excellence and quality programs at the hospital that
received national recognition.
Dr. German spent a year at the Association of American Medical Colleges in Washington, D.C. as a Petersdorf Scholar
in Residence. She studied the leadership of academic health centers framed in the concepts of chaos theory and
complex adaptive system science.
Dr. German was appointed as the Founding Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Central Florida in
December 2006. She leads the development of a full-scale medical school and academic medical center that is part of
an evolving research-based medical city within a highly engaged Central Florida community. In less than two years she
has hired over 200 employees and appointed over 700 volunteer faculty, gained preliminary accreditation, raised enough
money to provide full four-year scholarships for the entire Charter Class, and is overseeing construction of 400,000
square feet of medical school space.
Many communities have recognized Dr. German for her contributions. The city of Nashville honored her as the recipient
of the Athena Award and inducted her into the YWCA Academy for Women of Achievement. She is the recipient of
the AAMC Women in Medicine Leadership Development Award. Dr. German was named a Local Legend of Medicine in
the National Library of Medicine. She is the Orlando Business Journal and Orlando Regional Healthcare 2008 recipient
of both the Business Executive of the Year and the Businesswoman of the Year. Most recently, Dr. German received the
Orlando Sentinel’s Editorial Board Central Floridian of the Year, 2008.
Dr. German is the mother of two daughters.

Randall W. Hartley was appointed to the position of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for Nemours Children’s Hospital
(NCH). On May 2, Mr. Hartley joined the organization that is currently building a top-tier pediatric health care system in
Orlando that will be completed in 2012.
As CAO, Hartley will lead the direction and coordination of clinical support, operational support and administrative
functions associated with the new hospital to ensure that they are part of an integrated plan of operation and focused on
family-centered care. In his position, he will define the needs and requirements for all administrative efforts at NCH while
also undertaking the recruitment and development of support services.
Hartley is a nationally recognized senior health services executive that brings extensive operational and leadership
experience in a wide variety of complex international health care settings. He joins Nemours from his most recent
position as vice president, operations at St. Vincent’s Physicians Enterprises in Jacksonville, Florida where he led the
strategies for market growth opportunities and physician alignment for a multi-hospital, integrated system of care that
included 45 locations and approximately 160 physicians. Prior to that, he served as administrator/chief operating officer
for St Luke’s Hospital, also in Jacksonville.
Hartley received his Bachelor of Arts from the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA and subsequently served our
country for more than 28 years in the U.S. Air Force. His service included directing a multinational health care support
system for 200,000 personnel from 34 coalition nations that shattered medical support benchmarks during his tenure. He
also holds a Master of Science in Business with an emphasis on health care administration from the University of
Northern Colorado, Greeley, CO and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Since President Hitt's inauguration on November 19, 1992, UCF has become one of the top ten largest universities in the
country, serving eleven central Florida counties with four regional campuses and several satellite campuses. Prior to
becoming UCF's fourth president, Dr. Hitt served at the University of Maine as the interim president from 1991-1992 and
Vice President of Academic Affairs from 1987-1992.
Dr. Hitt served at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois as Provost of Academic Affairs from 1981-1987 as well as Vice
President of Academic Affairs from 1977-1987. Holding degrees from Austin College (A.B in psychology, 1962) and
Tulane University (M.S. and PhD in Physiological Psychology, 1964 and 1966), Dr. Hitt is a certified psychologist,
respected professor, author and editor.
Dr. Hitt has been married to his wife, Martha Ann Hitt since 1961 and has two children and two grandchildren.

Fred Kittinger is the Associate Vice President of University Relations and Director of State and Local Government Affairs
at the University of Central Florida.
Fred holds a Bachelors of Arts with honors in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida, and a Master of
Science in Public Administration from Florida State University.
Before assuming his present role at UCF in 2003, Fred was Chief of Staff to Orlando Mayor Glenda Hood, serving in the
Mayor’s office for 8 years. Prior to his city service Fred was Vice President for Governmental Affairs & Executive
Director of the Small Business Chamber for the Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce. He began his career as a
Legislative Aide to State Senator George Stuart, Jr.
Fred is active in various local civic organizations. He is a Board member of Junior Achievement, the Coalition for the
Homeless, UCF Golden Knights Boosters and the Orlando/Orange County Compact. Fred is an elder and adult Sunday
school teacher at Winter Park Presbyterian Church. He is an alumnus of Leadership Florida and Leadership Orlando,
and past president UCF Alumni Association.
Fred has been married to Sandra B. Kittinger for 23 years and has one daughter Alyssa who is a Junior in college.

Mr. Timothy W. Liezert was appointed as Director for the VA Medical Center in Orlando, Florida on August 6, 2006.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Liezert served as Acting Director/Associate Medical Center Director at the VA Western New
York Healthcare System. Prior to this appointment, he was Acting Director at the Lebanon Pennsylvania VA Medical
Center. He has also served as Associate Director at the Lebanon and Battle Creek Michigan VA Medical Centers.
Mr. Liezert began his VA career as an Engineering Co-operative student at the Cleveland Ohio VA Medical Center and
worked in Engineering and Facilities Management positions at the Indianapolis Indiana, Castle Point New York and
Battle Creek Michigan VA Medical Centers.
Mr. Liezert received his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Akron. He later received his
Masters of Business Administration degree from Western Michigan University. Mr. Liezert is a Fellow of the American
College of Healthcare Executives.

Deborah Robison is Director of Communications for Burnham at Lake Nona in Orlando, Florida, serving as the primary
media liaison in Florida. Her responsibilities include communicating the research accomplishments of Burnham
researchers to the general public and raising community awareness of Burnham and its contributions to the life science
industry in Central Florida.
“Deborah’s extensive public relations experience will be an asset to our Lake Nona team as we continue to keep the
community informed about the development of our East Coast campus and the research being done by our growing
faculty,” said Andrea Moser, Vice President of Communications for Burnham. “Throughout her career Deborah has
helped many highly respected organizations launch new ventures. She will strengthen our communications efforts
throughout Florida, while also helping to support our national communications program.”
Ms. Robison is a communications professional with experience in consumer, business to business and trade
communications. Robison joins Burnham from Darden Restaurants, where as Director of Media and Communications for
Seasons 52, she was responsible for introducing Darden’s newest restaurant concept in new markets. She has created
numerous outreach programs to promote healthy lifestyles.
Previously, as the Public Relations Director for SeaWorld Orlando, she led the communications effort for new attractions
and international publicity. Prior to locating in Florida, she had a lengthy career in New York City at D‐A‐Y Public
Relations and as a Senior Vice President at Ogilvy Mather PR, New York.
Ms. Robison earned her B.S. in nutrition from Pennsylvania State University and is also a registered dietitian with the
American Dietetic Association.

Thad Seymour leads strategic planning and business development for Lake Nona’s new “medical city”. Thad’s
role includes the supervision of all life sciences planning, new business ventures and corporate recruitment.
Prior to joining Lake Nona, Thad was a senior executive with biotech distributor CuraScript, Inc., a subsidiary of
Express Scripts, Inc. He also has extensive experience in healthcare informatics, including co-founding and
leading a venture‐backed electronic medical records company.
A founding board member of bioOrlando, Thad is active in promoting the life sciences in Central Florida. He is a
board member of Florida’s Blood Centers and the Florida Research Consortium and has served on the board of
multiple healthcare technology businesses.
Thad holds a BA from Dartmouth College, an MA and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, and an MBA from
the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. Thad and his wife Katie have three

As Assistant Vice President for Business Affairs, Carol is responsible for the Division of Facilities, Planning &
Construction which includes management of the University of Florida’s statewide construction program, master planning,
facility information systems, LEED Program and minor construction projects (under $2 million) for the Health Science
Center colleges and campus auxiliaries and property management of St. Augustine's state properties.
Carol has spent over 30 years of her career in academic institutions, both private and public. At the University of
Chicago, she worked in the Development Office and the Medical Center. At the University of Florida, Carol’s career
began at Shands Hospital as a Planner and an Administrator for Operations. As an Assistant Vice President for Health
Affairs, her major focus was facilities management.
Carol received a B.S. in Management from Nova University and an M.H.A. from the University of Minnesota. She is
involved in the following professional organizations: Construction Owners of America Association (COAA); National
Association of Colleges and University Business Officers (NACUBO); Medical Group Management Association;
Association of American Medical Colleges – Group on Institutional Planning (GIP); US Green Building Council (USGBC),
and Florida Educational Facilities Planners Association (FEFPA).
Her civic activities include: Ronald McDonald House, Gainesville Chamber of Commerce, and Florida Track Club.

In May 2010, Brian joined the EDC as Executive Vice President heading up the Innovation & Business Development
team. In his role, he oversees all business development functions and team members of the organization.
Prior to joining the EDC, Brian served as the president of the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development
Corporation for eight years. There, he was responsible for administration and strategic direction of the two-county, twostate economic development organization where he was instrumental in the establishment of the Cass/Clay Economic
Plan, an initiative designed to place that region in a stronger position to compete for businesses and jobs in emerging
high-tech industries such as vaccine development and smart technologies, among other notable accomplishments.
Brian is an accomplished economic development professional with a proven track record of success and over 15 years
of direct industry experience in Purvis, MS; Conroe, TX; and Dumas, TX. He is a member of the International Economic
Development Council. He was very involved in the community in Fargo, ND, and he looks forward to becoming involved
within the community in Metro Orlando.
