How to Configure Symantec Netbackup to Not Use SnapDrive’s Data ONTAP VSS

Please note that the Netbackup version used is 6.5.3.1. The location of this option may
be different in other versions of Netbackup.
The location of the Windows open file backup option is shown below.
The reason SnapDrive is taking a snapshot is the “Use Microsoft VSS” option is selected.
SnapDrive will take a snapshot that will be used for the backup. This can be seen in the
following slides.
A windows policy type is used.
Once the job starts, SnapDrive events will be seen in the Windows Application Event
logs.
To stop this from happening, make sure Veritas VSP is selected instead. In this case, a
snapshot will be taken at the beginning of the backup but it is taken by the Veritas
Volume Snapshot Provider and not Microsoft VSS. Therefore, the snapshot will exist
only inside of the LUN instead of on the filer.
