International Workshop: New Architectures for Future Internet ITU Focus Group on Future Networks Campinas, September 2009 Background WTSA 2008 New Study Period (2009 – 2012) SG 2 ... SG 3 Future Networks including mobile and NGN SG 13 Background QUESTION TITLE . . . . . . Q 18/13 Q 19/13 Requirements and framework for enabling COTS components in an open environment Distributed services networking (DSN) Q 20/13 Public data networks Q 21/13 Future networks Question Q.21/13 This question is responsible for developing Recommendations on Future Networks, aiming to understand how a futuristic architecture and framework, which includes high level requirements and functional architecture and use cases and services, meets the requirements for these networks. Creation of Focus Group on Future Networks Jan/2009 Question Q.21/13 a) Y.FNvision – definitions, Values, Visions, General Concepts and Requirements for Future Networks. General idea: “a network that is capable of providing revolutionary services, capabilities and facilities that are hard to be Proposed Recommendations provided by current network technologies”. b) Y.FNvirt – Requirements for network virtualization, as required for Future Networks. This Recommendation will also investigate requirements, scenarios and procedures for network virtualization. Focus Group on Future Networks The Focus Group aims to help advance the work of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) Study Groups, specially providing the basis for the work of Question 21/13 on Future Networks on Recommendation development. Differently than the work on ITU Study Groups, the Focus Group is open to all interested parties to collaborate on the work, such as other standardization organizations, experts, individuals, academies, etc, who may not be members of the ITU. Scope of the Work: – collect and identify visions of future networks, based on new technologies, – assess the interactions between future networks and new services, – familiarize ITU-T and standardization communities with emerging attributes of future networks, and – encourage collaboration between ITU-T and FN communities. Focus Group 1st Meeting Lulea, Sweden, 29 June – 3 July 2009. • Framework of existing research activities in China, Europe, Korea, and Japan were introduced; • Two deliverables identified: • Future Networks: vision, concept, and requirements; and • Framework of network virtualization • Agreed time line of FGFN activities; • Close collaboration with other initiatives must be ensured. • Project FIRE - FGFN joint meeting.
