Art & Crafts: o Provide students with precut sports equipments and let them design a collage for a sport. o Create a sports mascot. The mascot should represent Indian culture, significance, and sportsmanship. o Students will pick their favorite sport and create a poster showing the venues for games, sports equipments, game rules and directions, and reasons for liking the particular sport. o Provide a picture of stadium and have students add the details.

Note: (Following is a list of Lessons & possible Activities that can go with each lesson. Lessons & Activities may be selected or mixed & matched, as per students’ level/interest/pace/progress/ and time limit. The list of vocabulary and sentence structures is just a guideline for essential vocabulary/sentence structure- teachers may add related vocabulary/sentence structure if a class/sub-group is progressing faster than anticipated).

( Day 1)

Lesson 1:

Greet students in culturally appropriate way, talk about weather, talk about yesterday’s lesson, talk about the camp

Warm Up : Pick up a construction paper and draw a picture showing your favorite sport (encourage students to include details various equipment used, where it is played).

1. Pick some students to share the picture they made with the class and say few words or sentences about it based on the student’s ability to speak the language.

2. Teacher can pick few pictures and say the name of the sport and the equipment used in the sport.

3. Show students a power point showing some of the popular sports played in India and introduce them to essential vocabulary

4. After watching various sports, have students pick one sport that they will like to learn more about.

5. Form students group based on the sports they pick. Provide pictures of various verbs associated with playing the sport and have students come up with some sentences using essential sentence structure sheet.

6. Short group discussion of what students like about their sport within their group using essential sentence structure.

Additional Tasks:

1. Discuss the verbs related with the playing the sport the students group has selected. Set up task where students can describe what a player is doing in a particular picture or power point.

2. Discuss cricket in detail, the equipment used, and rules of playing cricket.

Assessment:

Students are able to use the vocabulary and essential sentence structure to tell what sport they like, equipment used.

Lesson 2:

Ask students about how they like the activity or yoga session or wherever they are coming from).

Warm up: Review the vocabulary students learned in the first instruction hour.

This can be done by throwing a soft ball to the student. You can show students a visual (picture or a power point) and student will reply back in Hindi or students can say any vocabulary word they remember from the first hour or students can play vocabulary bingo.

1. Show students a video clip of Cricket world cup with Hindi Commentary and have students identify famous Cricket players.

2. Ask each student to pick up their favorite player and discuss in their group: what is the name of their player, what sport he /she plays, what equipments are used by their player, where is this sport played, what are some of the rules followed in this game.

3. After discussion, students can present their favorite player to class and describe all the things they have discussed in their group.

Additional Tasks:

1. Show students a video clip of Cricket World Cup with Hindi commentary and have students describe what players are doing using the verbs they learned in the morning.

2. After watching the video clip, student can work on a “missing information activity “where they have to ask and answer questions with a partner about sport preference of information about a famous sport figure.

3. Students can also ask each other questions by showing a piece of equipment and others have to describe the sports, How to play the sport, rules etc.

Assessment: Students should be able to describe what is happening in the video clip or be able to form short sentences identifying actions (like throwing, batting, catching etc)

Arts & Craft associated with today’s lesson: Students can use Hindi text if they can read/write the text in Hindi. o Provide students with precut sports equipments and let them design a collage for a sport. o Provide a picture of stadium based on student preference and have them add details. o Students will pick their favorite sport and create a poster showing the venues for games, sports equipments, game rules and directions, and reasons for liking the particular sport.

( Day 2 )

Lesson 1:

Today students will make believe they are going to cricket match. They will use the vocabulary they learned in class yesterday and acquire new vocabulary in the morning session.

Warm up: Turn to the student sitting next to you and talk about what you learned yesterday in class. Students should be discussing about their favorite sport, player, equipment or verbs associated with sports. Walk around the class and monitor that students are using Hindi. Assist as needed.

1. Distribute the maps of city where cricket match is taking place. Students. will highlight the stadium on the map.

2. Ask students what type of transportation they will take to get to the stadium.

3. Review the vocabulary for purchasing tickets from previous lessons.

Introduce vocabulary related to seats and their location in the stadium.

Students will decide where they will like to sit in the stadium and why.

Additional Tasks:

1. Students will discuss the pros and cons of using different transportation to the stadium.

2. Students will discuss the price of ticket and how much they want to spend and where they want to sit in the stadium.

3. Students can practice how they look and find their seat. You can provide them with different scenarios like someone else is sitting in your seat or you would like to sit next to your friend, but your seats are away from each other.

Assessment: Name different modes of transportation, use vocabulary related to purchasing ticket or finding their seats.

Lesson 2 :

Warm up : Make a list of things you will need to go watch a cricket match, including what you will wear, carry with you. What are some the factors you will consider to make sure you arrive in time.

1. Students will be divided into groups to prepare for the role playing.

2. They are going to watch world cup cricket match. They will plan where and how they will buy tickets, who they will go with, what clothes they will wear, transportation they will take, finding the seat.

3. After students are done preparing their skit/ role playing, they will present it to the class or you can assign specific tasks to students like, ticket master, player, coach, spectators etc…. and have prepare a skit for other class

Assessment: Students will be able to ask and answer questions. Be able to act out a certain role using the vocabulary they have acquired.

Art & Craft Activities associated with Today’s lesson: o Create a sports mascot. The mascot should represent Indian culture, significance, and sportsmanship. o Come up with a sport cheer. If students are capable of writing text , they can write the cheer with a drawing o Make a brochure advertising the sport of your choice.

NOTE: Please remember to include a short “Exit Ticket” at the end of the day to wrap up the day.

Literacy Task Activity (30 minutes) :

For students who do not know the script, simple literacy tasks for example, student write their own name, name of the sport they like, identify alphabets, find common alphabets, list most and least repeated alphabets, learn about adding accents by “matras”, and special letters to review and reinforce these literacy concepts, practice writing, listening to phonetic spelling, a story etc can be included in the scheduled free format time.
