Note also the corresponding recommendations of the operating system manufacturers. If you use SAP's desktop integration on your workstation, the requirements of the corresponding office programs should also be noted. The SAP Online Documentation may impose additional requirements stated in the following section. General Considerations SAP assumes that the supported operating systems or the required software packages are downward-compatible if not specified differently by the producer. In case of doubt, an exception list is defined. Example: NT Release 4.0 SP3 implies the NT release 4.0 SP 4, IE 4.01 implies IE 5. Counter-example: Office 95 does not imply Office 97 since these versions of the Office software are not compatible with each other according to Microsoft Definition "minimal": 1 session SAP GUI 1 Internet Explorer to display the SAP Online Documentation Definition "Recommended": 3 sessions SAP GUI 1 Internet Explorer to display the SAP Online Documentation 1 additional office product or mail client For work centers where you work with desktop integration, the request of the corresponding office programs should also be noted. For work centers with higher requirements than specified here (for example, more than 3 sessions or additional programs running at the same time, such as office product PLUS mail client and so on, third-party software) it may be required in individual cases to make estimations and to carry out tests. In general, the following applies: Processor: Maximum of individual specifications Memory: Total of individual specifications Hard disk: Total of individual specifications Possibly you have to consider a platform change (Windows NT) because of the limited possibilities (administration of so-called GDI resources) of Win95 and Win98. For graphical applications (SAP ArchiveLink, Customizing, Graphical Screen Painter), a graphics card with a 1024 x 768 resolution (or higher) is recommended. March 2000 51009709 Page 5 SAP System Requirements Release 4.6C Specific Requirements Windows 95 (requires Internet Explorer IE 4.01 SP2) R/3 Rel. 4.6 "light" (*) Minimum R/3 Rel. 4.6 - new design Recommended Minimum recommended Colors 256 256 256 32000 Resolution 800 x 600 1024 x 768 1024 x 768 1024 x 768 17'' 17" 17" Monitor Processor Pentium 60 Pentium 133 Pentium 133 Pentium 200+ Memory 32 MB 48 MB 32 MB 48 MB Windows 98 / NT 4.0 (SP5/SP6) (requires Internet Explorer IE 4.01 SP2) R/3 Rel. 4.6 "light" (*) Minimum R/3 Rel. 4.6 - new design Recommended minimum recommended Colors 256 256 256 32000 Resolution 800 x 600 1024 x 768 1024 x 768 1024 x 768 17'' 17" 17" Monitor Processor Pentium 90 Pentium 133 Pentium 133 Pentium 200+ Memory 48 MB 64 MB 48 MB 64 MB Windows 2000 R/3 Rel. 4.6 "light" (*) Minimum R/3 Rel. 4.6 - new design Recommended minimum recommended Colors 256 256 256 32000 Resolution 800 x 600 1024 x 768 1024 x 768 1024 x 768 17'' 17" 17" Monitor Processor Pentium 350 Pentium 350 Pentium 350 Pentium 350 Memory 128 MB 128 MB 128 MB 128 MB (*) When you use the GUI "light", R/3 looks as in earlier (up to and including 4.5B) releases, thus not with "enjoy" design. Both versions are identical in their functionality but have differences in their graphic design. The GUI "light" ensures the use on the PC hardware infrastructure which was recommended in Release 4.5. A PC hardware upgrade is therefore not absolutely necessary for Release 4.6. Windows Terminal Server is supported. The Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 is required because software components are used which are installed together with the Internet Explorer. You can still use alternative browsers as default browser. The requirement "Service Pack 5 for NT 4.0" is a consequence of the Year 2000 requirement on NT. For NT country versions for which SP 4 is not available, NT 4.0 must be adapted to the local conditions concerning the Year 2000. March 2000 51009709 Page 6 SAP System Requirements Release 4.6C The requirement of 17'' monitor is a result of the recommended resolution of 1024x768 pixels. You are free to use this resolution on smaller monitors, however, this may not produce an acceptable display quality. If you use a smaller resolution than the one recommended in the tables above, undesirable scrollbars may appear. Hard disk requirements: •= •= server based installation: 50 MB local installation : 200 MB Please refer to OSS note 26417 and associated notes for updated information on SAP GUI for Windows system requirements. All variations of the Online Documentation are supported (*1). For the Online Documentation types "PlainHtmlHttp" and "PlainHtmlFile" you can also use Netscape 4.0 or higher as your standard browser. (*1) Internet Explorer has to be installed before the SAP GUI for correct installation results. Internet Explorer does not have to be the operating system's default browser. Requirements for the mySAP.com Workplace The mySAP.com Workplace requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 on Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0 or 2000. The gateway can be installed on a different plattform. The types of reachable partner systems for communication (R/2, R/3, ...) depend only on the gateway platform (see "Communication R/2-R/3: supported communication software for host connection" and "R/2-Workstation-Software:supported communication software for host connection"). (*2) The possible communication subsystems are listed in "SAP Supported Communication Software for R/2 Workstation Software (CUA)" and "SAP Supported Platforms and Communication Software for Communication R/3 - R/2, R/3 - External programs" for R/2 and R/3 respectively. (*3) RFC-Communication with R/2 is supported starting with R/2 Rel. 5.0D (R/2 Rel. 5.0F for systems running under IMS). For RFC communication with R/2 systems running under IMS APPC/MVS and APPC/IMS are required (usage of the LU61/LU62 Adapter is not supported). RFC communication with R/2 systems using external security systems (RAC/F, ACF2, ..) is not supported. (*4) This type of RFC communication is not supported for communication to R/2 Systems. (*5) There is no SAP cpicslib needed because the communication subsystem already provides a CPI-C library. (*6) For communication via SNA a CPI-C Handler on a different platform, which is supported by SAP, must be used (see "SAP Supported Platforms and ..."). (*7) For special behavior and limitations see OSS notes 84685 and 91422. In the current version RFC load balancing is supported only in homogeneous AS/400 configurations. (*8) This type of communication is not supported for communication from R/2 Systems under BS2000. (*9) For special behavior and limitations see OSS note 119496. (*10) Standalone RFC programs need the Winsock2 update for Windows 95. This update is automatically installed by SAP frontend installation program. Platform restrictions result in the requirements of this product (no support for Windows 2000). March 2000 51009709 Page 14 SAP System Requirements Release 4.6C SAP Internet Transaction Server The SAP Internet Transaction Server enables you to use SAP Internet Application Components with Web browsers. It consists of two parts: The Application Gateway (AGate) which controls the R/3 user session and the Web Gateway (WGate) which connects to a Web server. The WGate requires a Web server that offers one of the following extension interfaces: ISAPI, NSAPI (on Windows NT) or CGI (on Windows NT). SAP supports the SAP Internet Transaction Server with the following platforms and Web servers: Operating System AGate WGate Web Server Product for WGate Microsoft Internet Information Server 3.0 (*1) Windows NT 4.0 Server (Intel) + SP 4 or higher Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0 (*1) Yes Yes Netscape Enterprise Server 3.6 (*2) Any CGI compliant Web server (*3) (*1) With the ISAPI Web server extension interface.
