Our mission is to identify and assess the needs of families and individuals - and then direct them to the appropriate resources. Our goal is to help families and individuals help themselves. Each year families, individuals, churches and businesses from the community “adopt” one or more needy families and anonymously provide gifts for Christmas. 608 families received help for Christmas in 2010, including 1356 children. Client Assistance: Low income families are able to get needed household items or clothes from our Thrift Store. Winter Coats: Each year we give over 600 coats to children and adults in need of winter wear. Family Cupboard Food Pantry: With donations (money and food) from our community, we pass that on to help the needy families in the area. We serve an average of 436 families per month. Good Sense Financial Mentoring: Clients who wish to have assistance in learning how to pay their bills and set financial priorities and goals are helped through this program. Housing Assistance: Assisting individuals and families to acquire and maintain permanent housing. Information & Referral: The staff at Love, Inc. provides information and referral services to over 25 clients per day. The staff helps individuals and families identify, understand and navigate through the human services system within our community. Iris Paepke Foundation: Community funded program, designed to offer low interest loans to those clients in need. Meal Site: Monday through Friday, churches, families and groups in our community take turns preparing nutritious meals and provide fellowship for anyone with an appetite. This program serves over 11,500 individual meals annually. Medical Supplies: Loaning of used, donated hospital equipment to those in need. Recycling: 380 Tons of items were recycled in 2010. These were items unable to be sold in our retail stores. These items include metal, textiles, buttons, shoes, books and cardboard. Rental Assistance: For those families that qualify, a one time per year rent voucher is available and paid directly to their landlord. Last year 249 people received help with their rent. 480 S Pine Street ~ Burlington WI 53105 ~ 262-763-6226 ~ www.love-inc.net Shoes for Kids: Using cash donations from churches and individuals, Love, Inc. works with families in Western Racine Counties to purchase new school shoes for kids (K-12). Last year we purchased over 415 pairs of shoes and 621 children were helped with new school supplies. Starfish Mentoring Program: Love is partnering with Big Brother/Big Sister to provide a mentoring program that links caring adults with young people to help them achieve their full potential. For more information call Love, Inc. and ask for Dena at extension 115. Teachers LOVE: Teachers from area schools are able to get needed clothes and school supplies for their students. Thanksgiving Food Baskets: Through donations (monetary and food) we are able to give baskets to over 610 families in need so they may be blessed with a Thanksgiving dinner. Tutoring: Volunteers come into Love, Inc. twice a week to help kids of all ages with their studies. Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers at Love, Inc. make up the foundation on which we run. We have approximately 900 different volunteers a year. Volunteers consist of men, women and high school students in need of community service learning hours, physically and mentally challenged individuals, retirees and families. COLLABORATING PROGRAMS Careers: Program for disabled individuals that provides hands-on work. Meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM. Children Service Network: Committee that addresses the needs of children of low-income families. They meet every other month. Children’s Service Society of WI: Individual and family counseling for children and adults. Education and support groups are available. Community Service: Love, Inc. works with the high schools and churches in providing volunteer opportunities for our young people. Volunteer hours are also available for teenagers and adults that are court ordered to complete community service. It is intended to help pay a portion of heating cost. Program runs October through May every Tuesday, Thursday and alternating Saturdays. Family Smart Kid Friendly (FSKFP): Families with babies, toddlers and preschoolers are offered fun and educational programs designed to stimulate early learning. Family Violence Advocacy Network: Provides crisis intervention, advocacy and prevention services to victims and individuals at risk of family violence. For more information call Love, Inc. and ask for Dena at extension 115, Monday through Friday. HOPES Center: Provides individual therapy for persons experiencing homelessness. For more information call Love, Inc. and leave a message for Mike. He is in on Thursday. Hispanic Outreach: Two days a week there is an interpreter available to assist Spanish speaking individuals. The interpreters are provided through Catholic Charities on Tuesday (Bertha) and the Western Racine County Health Department on Thursday (Melinda). Tri-County Riders Toy Run: For the past 12 years the Tri-Country Riders organized a motorcycle run to raise money and toys for our Adopt-A-Family Christmas Program. $150,000 and toys have been raised so far. Narcotics Anonymous (NA): Twelve step support group for people with drug addiction. This group meets every Wednesday at 6:15 PM. NAMI – National Alliance for the Mentally Ill: Nonprofit organization working to improve the quality of life through support, education, and advocacy for all individuals affected by mental illness. Assistance is available on Tuesday and Friday from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Group meets 2nd Monday of the month at 6:30 PM and the 4th Saturday of the month at 1:00 PM. Racine Vocational Ministry: Provides assistance in interviewing skills, resume writing, job skills assessment and job search strategies. Salvation Army Kettle Drive: Love, Inc. recruits all of the volunteers to ring the bell throughout Western Racine County. 87% of the money raised during this campaign comes to Love, Inc. Lutheran Social Services has two office locations, one in the city of Racine and the other at Love, Inc. in Burlington. Sexual Assault Services offers a 24-hour crisis line at (262) 637-SAFE (7233) (collect calls accepted), legal & medical advocacy, counseling, support groups, prevention education, community awareness, referrals, and volunteer opportunities. Society’s Assets: Center for Independent Living serving people with physical and sensory disabilities. Assistance is available on Thursday from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. For more information call Love, Inc. and ask for Eppy at extension 112. Support Groups: Throughout the year we have support and education groups that deal with a variety of issues. Some of these include parenting, drug addiction, anger management and financial literacy. Supportive Volunteers: Groups of developmentally delayed and physically handicapped children and adults come to Love, Inc. with their teachers or supervisors and assist in preparing items for sale in our stores. They do things such as sorting bags, cutting buttons from shirts, cleaning toys and sorting hangers. Tax Preparation: Free tax help for low income and senior citizens. For an appointment call Love, Inc. at the end of January. The Morrow House: TLC runs a transitional two family home in Burlington. Donated items from our community friends are sorted and sold in our five stores. This revenue provides 65% of our annual budget and allows us to provide clothing and household goods to those in need. Building & Donation Center: The building and donation center is our biggest program. It is the facility that provides a place for everything to happen. Our Donation Center receives, sorts and stores: clothing, furniture, books and miscellaneous merchandise which is ultimately sold in one of our stores. Many of the employees in our buildings are in fact clients who may not be employable elsewhere. The building provides offices and a meeting place for all of our programs. Without the building and Donation Center Love, Inc. would not exist. Thrift Store: You never know what you will find in our main store, the stock changes every day. If you are looking for clothes, shoes, household goods, and hardware or knick knacks this is the place to go, especially if you are on a budget! Kids Store: In our Kids Store we sell everything for newborn through teen years including furniture, toys, bikes, and clothing. Your children will love our selection of affordable toys! Used Furniture Store: We have a varied selection of furniture, if we don’t have what you are looking for today, we probably will tomorrow! Low income individuals can volunteer at Love, Inc. to earn needed furniture. Waterford Thrift Store: This store is a unique boutique serving the Waterford area. A charming selection of items offered for sale at this special location. Book Store: In our Book Store we sell used books, magazines, CD’s, DVD’s, records, art work, games and puzzles, come in, take your time and browse.
