GVE STORY
Raymond Visan, the visionary founder of George V
Eatertainment, has developed the original concept
of a restaurant with a lounge/bar, exotic decor
with its own original signature music played by a
live DJ.
Launched with Barfly in 1995, there are now four
venues in Paris: Buddha-Bar, Bound, Barlotti,
Barrio Latino and many more worldwide.
These “Eatertainment” concepts have led to
retail merchandising which includes records
(15 CD compilations) and Buddha-Bar Retail (CD,
compilations, jewellery, clothing items, lifestyle
and trendy household items).
A natural evolution of these restaurants/bar/
lounges and DJ concepts was to develop upscale
hotels. Buddha-Bar Hotel & Spa in Prague is a
celebration of everything that is Buddha-bar.
A new dimension of hospitality which offers a
unique and inspirational lifestyle experience.
Another successful enterprise is the Buddha-Bar
Spa in Evian-Les-Bains. The incredible Sanctuary
Night Club in Dubai, has set a new standard for
the international clubbing scene.
More concepts and interpretations have
been developed and licensed franchises sold
worldwide - nightclubs, spas, lifestyle boutiques,
restaurants, bars/lounges and hotels.
RAYMOND VISAN
Raymond Visan was born in 1950 in Boulogne
Billancourt, France. Very much a family man, he
is a proud father of four children and has been
married to his wife Tarja for twenty years.
Destined to work in the family’s Duty Free
business, he demonstrated an early business
acumen by opening new and improved sales
outlets featuring innovative products. Later
he was invited to showcase the Horseman
Statues of Tsin (the first Emperor of China) and
other museum pieces from China’s national
heritage on loan from the Chinese Government
in the Printemps department store in Paris. The
exhibition was an international success and
attracted over half a million visitors.
The family business was sold in the late 1980s and
Raymond established a chain of 1950’s America
themed diners.
Frustrated with the lack of innovation in the
restaurants, bars, and clubs he visited during
his travels, he decided to combine their best
features into a unique Restaurant/Bar/Lounge
with a vibrant and energetic club-like setting
and a live DJ creating its specific musical
signature, a mix of lounge and house music…
The B*fly was born and immediately successful,
quickly followed by the famous and celebrated
Buddha-Bar.
Later on, Raymond Visan developed his signature
concepts in new locations, building a worldwide
reputation.
TARJA VISAN
Born in Finland, she later moved to France in the
early 1980’s to begin an international modeling
career, giving her the opportunity to travel the
globe and discover its abundance of cultures.
She soon became a Citizen of the world, and
grew fascinated with its traditions and various
lifestyles.
In 1986, she married Raymond Visan, together they
established four Restaurants/Bars/Lounges
that have now become icons of Parisian nightlife:
B*Fly (now Bound), Buddha-Bar, Barrio Latino and
Barlotti.
At the same time, Tarja’s natural passion for
music led to the creation in 2001 of a Music
Label, George V Records, whose numerous
compilations - including the « buddha-Bar » CD
collection - are now worldwide standards.
Growing concerned about ecological issues
and eager to contribute to the solution, the
label decided to produce Eco-minded DVDs and
CD’s, and worked closely with Allain Bougrain
Dubourg - a renowned wildlife and nature expert
- to release « Buddha-Bar Nature » in 2006 and
« Buddha-Bar Ocean » in 2008.
Wishing to share her passion for well-being
and a healthy lifestyle acquired during her
international modeling career, Tarja took a new
challenge in 2007, opening the first Buddha-Bar
Spa in Evian-les Bains to critical acclaim.
Combining Asian and Tibetan skin & body cares
with a natural range of beauty products, mixing
traditional and modern treatment techniques,
she created the Buddhattitude - Chic and Zen
associated with East and West influences.
A collection of Buddhattitude CDs - with a
soothing and relaxing signature atmosphere completed that unique vision.
After taking by storm Evian-les-Bains - birthplace
of European spa and health resort - the
Buddhattitude will travel to new destinations:
Dakar, Doha, Dubai and many more…

health, well-being and spiritual awakening.
We have created an environment with an element
of surprise that breaks the mould of the
traditional spa experience and offers an oasis
from the distractions of everyday life.
The Buddha-Bar Spa takes its lead from the
Buddha-Bar Paris, integrating core design
elements into an interior that awakens the
senses and evokes passion, unearthing the real
self.
At the Buddha-Bar Spa it’s simple: uncomplicated!
Oozing with surprise and attitude...
We create pure peace and pleasure focusing on
the link between mind and body…

cool and chic, just like the Buddha-Bar!
Surroundings contribute to our state of mind,
balance in motion, passionate spaces that yield
a sense of serenity for our guests, creating

• Our creative spa cuisine
The buddha-bar spa design focused on three
essential core values:
• The call of everything Asian, beautiful
artwork original pieces from Thailand, Burma,
and Laos.
• The artful play with colour a base of Asian red
mixed with turquoise, then injecting these core
colours with a rainbow of colour mix!!
• We then had to create the scene the
atmosphere, this eclectic mix of continents this
total passion fusion whether it’s a trip to Bali, a
temple, or a trip to a chic hip city place,
to feel a common thread but at the same time a
continuity...
Black is present throughout as it gives rise to
the other colours and sensations.
The spa lives a day and night life. The white
marble Buddha situated in the reception is
symbolic of the atmosphere, the presence of
the Buddha the sheer volume, set against the
rock and mosaic fountain.
The therapy rooms are alive with the chakra
colours, along with natural stone, bamboo and
teak floors, the corridor is enchanting with
the representation of Thai dancing hands and

Tanquerel.

relaxation room with wave chairs and Thai
artwork create a chill out museum!

pool and Japanese wooden tubs the lighting
is sublime with large metal chandeliers, the

CONCEPT DEFINITION
THE MUSIC EXPERIENCE
Raymond Visan is the visionary behind the
Buddha-Bar concept. Bushra is a modern
interpretation of the Enlightenment and
Romanticism eras. The East (Middle and Far East)
were seen as exotic and erotic destinations
which influenced an exciting and developing,
sensual artistic movement for writers, painters
and architects. Ottoman style fused with the
style and elegance of Far East Orientalism.
The British had a presence in India for the first
half of the 18th Century - Napoleon embarked
upon an Egyptian campaign in 1798. Oriental ideas,
visions, life-styles and spices were brought
back to Europe and influenced all forms of
culture, cuisine and enhanced intellectual
debate and understanding.
Bushra is a fusion of Eastern ideas and design.
These varying elements are combined and
embraced in a two-floor restaurant, bar
lounge, with sympathy for Eastern colours,
designs and taste. Sound, taste and vision are
the winning combination for this unique Eastern
experience.
Early evening is brought in with a mix of Oriental
lounge music with reworks of traditional
Arabic tunes. Slowing, the evening evolves into
various rhythmic combinations of tribal, house
and pop – always with an international music
undertone.
THE AMBIANCE
An inspirational Ottoman palace door leads into
a timeless elegance – a perfect amalgamation of
Middle Eastern/Ottoman/Oriental/18th Century
Baroque design and themes.
Fabrics of rich Eastern reds, dark orange,
gold and brown colours matched with
dark wood, intricate gold patinas. Discreet
lighting enhances the sense of the Oriental: a
taste of Moroccan influence in the beautiful
moucharabieh panels. Baroque chairs with
Ottoman style sofas and soft, inviting pillows.
Upstairs, a long bar with a gold façade
is decorated like an Arabian tent. Roofing
suspended on antique Arab warrior spears
evoke a sense of desert and a secret,
mysterious place. Suspended from the ceiling,
Sarazin shaped helmets reflect a soft light
onto the counter.
