Scavenger Hunt- A Biology Collection Dear Pre-IB Biologist, We are glad that you have chosen to take Pre IB Biology next year. In order to “fit it all in” you must complete a summer assignment prior to our first class meeting. This summer assignment will take you between 15 and 30 hours to complete. The subject is interesting and not very difficult to understand. Your time spent learning before the start of class will allow us to have more time for the “fun” of biology, and ensure that you’ll be well prepared for the Biology EOC at the end of the year. For your summer assignment, you will be familiarizing yourself with 1 st quarter science terms. You will be “collecting” images throughout the summer by taking digital photographs OR drawing personal sketches. Your collection must include 25 terms out of the 40 that are attached to this document. You pick what 25 terms you would like to do. 1. Guidelines: Cover page must include title, your name and the class title You will collect each item by finding it and taking a photograph (digital or paper printed) or creating a personal drawing of that item. You are required to include a description that includes the following: What the specimen is, where you found it, how it relates to biology, term you chose, and what the term means. -If you choose to draw sketches (see IB drawing requirementsattached to this document) -You will keep your photographs and drawings in a notebook. Place your drawing/picture on the RIGHT side of the notebook with the descriptions on the LEFT side. 2. 3. 4. 5. -You CAN do both photographs and drawings Original Photos ONLY! You cannot use an image from any publication or on the web. You must have taken the photograph yourself. In order to prove the picture is yours, you need to place an item in all of your photographs that only you could have added each time, something that you might usually have on you like a pen, a coin, a key or your cell phone etc. Use the same item in each picture. YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO IF YOU COPY YOUR IMAGES FROM THE WEB. Natural Items Only: All items must be from something that you found in nature. Take a walk around your neighborhood, your yard, town, beach or keep your eyes open around you when you are on vacation. DON’T SPEND ANY MONEY! Research what the term means and then go out and find an example. Biology Collection terms: Terms/vocabulary list that you are to “collect” can be found at the end of this document. An individual organism can only be used once. You will need to USE CITATION when copying definitions and other facts (P.S. Wikipedia is not a valid website to use) Please see citation paper attached to this document for instructions on how to do this. Notebook due: Your notebook will be due the week of August 27, 2015. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO THIS ASSIGNMENT! We look forward to working with you. Get ready to think Biology!
