First Fridays for Graduate Students A monthly brownbag workshop series for graduate students that offers opportunities for discussion, networking, and learning about resources on teaching and learning. Fall Workshops ** All workshops held at the CTL: 100 Gerberding Hall October 4, 2013 (2:00-3:00 p.m.) Leveling the playing field for English language learner students Facilitated by Andrew Cockrell (Political Science) In this workshop participants learn about the findings of a recent pilot program at UW where ELL students in an intro-level social sciences course performed just as well as other students in the course. While discussing these findings, participants will learn simple course design elements, teaching strategies, and assessment practices that support the academic work of ELL and of all students.
