Helped 1064 donors realize their for giving. passion Contents The Johnson County Community Foundation meets national standards for community foundations. Community foundations that achieve these standards demonstrate excellence in important areas, including client service, fiscal accountability, grantmaking and community leadership. 2012 Impact Inside cover Letter from the Leadership, Vision and Mission 1 Grants and Scholarships 2-5 JCCF Funds, Ways to Give 6-7 Donors, Circle of Friends 8-9 Donors, Tributes, Gala 10-11 Staff and Board, Financial Profile 12 Sponsors 13 Legacy Society back cover a message from the Board Chair & President/CEO At the Intersection Last year was an incredible year for the Johnson County Community Foundation ( JCCF). A big thank you goes to more than 1,000 community caregivers for helping strengthen the foundation and the Johnson County community last year. Johnson County is fortunate to have a community of caregivers that continue to connect with causes that matter. It only takes one caring connection to change a person’s life forever. As you will read in this report, through the generosity of our community caregivers, JCCF provided more than $750,000 in benefits to Johnson County including grants to a variety of fieldsof-interests, scholarships to deserving youth, leadership for several projects and workshops for businesses, both for and nonprofit. The intersections of caring Ü connecting were found from east Ü west and north Ü south throughout the county. Specifically for JCCF, six special caregivers helped renovate and refresh JCCF’s historic 1903 home. These caregivers were contributing in memory of or honoring loved ones or simply saw the need to connect their contributions with historic preservation. These contributors are now lifetime members of JCCF’s Circle of Friends and donors to the Manor Fund. The word “thanks” does not seem to be enough to honor such generous benefactors. JCCF’s electronic communication connections were also enhanced in 2012. The JCCF Board of Directors made a commitment based on the strategic plan to develop a highly interactive website for contributors, grant seekers, students seeking scholarships and other interested parties. E-newsletters and social media have also been given a high priority to further connect those who care with their personal interests and causes. And finally, the financial foundation of JCCF grew substantially last year. Cared for by the Investment Committee, the return on those assets was more than 13% and other contributions grew by leaps and bounds. At the end of 2012, the total assets were above $17 million due to investment returns and contributions. Because of the fiscal caregivers who work with JCCF, we are in the best financial shape we have been in years. The positives noted above set the direction for further connecting people who care with causes that matter. Without those who strive to make Johnson County better, we would not have the “intersection of caring and connecting.” Steve Spencer, board chair Gail Richards, president and CEO Spencer Richards The Johnson County Community Foundation, established in 1991, is a nonprofit organization created by and for the people of Johnson County to help make the community a better place for everyone. Our vision The Johnson County Community Foundation strives to be the philanthropic leader in improving our community, today and in the future, by connecting people who care with causes that matter in Johnson County. Our mission To enhance the quality of life for all citizens of Johnson County, now and for generations to come, by building community endowment, addressing needs through grantmaking, and providing leadership on key community issues. 1 Û A partnership between Franklin College and the City of Franklin received a grant from the Community Impact Fund to create a student art gallery, interactive art studio, coffee house/juice bar in downtown Franklin that would be open to public for connecting the college and community. The innovative partnership has resulted in 66 Water Street Cafe. 2012 Grantmaking: $379,754 to 155 causes that matter.
