Saturday, September 19, 2015 28th Annual Trashmasters Classic—Lake Shore Cleanup around Barren River Lake Sponsored by the Friends of Barren River Lake & Park in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Volunteers take a pontoon ride to the shores of Barren River Lake to clean, clean, clean. Gloves and garbage bags are donated for the cause. Pontoon owners donate the use of their pontoon for the day. A great community service event. All registered volunteers are invited to Barren River State Park’s Sunset Cove Recreation Area from Noon until 3pm for free food, door prizes, and live entertainment. Join us to celebrate Barren River Lake’s 50th birthday and the Kentucky State Park’s 90th birthday during this event. October 1-31, 2015 Trail of Scarecrows at Barren River Lake State Resort Park All families, schools, Scouts, churches, business and other groups are invited to create a unique one-of-a-kind scarecrow to display along the “Trail of Scarecrows. The public is encouraged to visit the Park and view the scarecrows, free of charge, from Oct. 1-31. The scarecrows along with laminated signs identifying its name and the builders are placed along the paved trail that visitors walk, run, hike and bike. A parade will take place downtown. The Clydesdale is a breed of draught horse derived from the farm horses of Clydesdale, Scotland, and named after that region. Although originally one of the smaller breeds of draught horses, it is now a tall breed. Often bay in color, they show significant white markings due to the presence of Sabino genetics. The breed, originally used for agriculture and haulage, is still used for draught purposes today. The Budweiser Clydesdales are some of the most famous Clydesdales, and other members of the breed are used as drum horses by the British Household Cavalry.
