THE BIG PICTURE
Cam
p
Bays
ide
Bayside has had our very own base camp in the
Mexicali valley since 2009 where well over a
thousand high school students, college students
and adults from every Bayside church campus
serve during Easter week and lives are changed.
We set up “Camp Bayside” and our church family
experiences a phenomenal week of serving God,
each other and our Mexican brothers and sisters.
Carolyn Koons, a professor at Azusa Pacific University, participated
in the short-term missions movement that started in the 1960s.
Churches began asking Carolyn to take them to Mexico with her. She
took five churches to Mexicali, Mexico, in 1970, and “Mexicali
Outreach” was born. From there, it has grown mostly by word of
mouth. Each year thousands of participants cross the border with
APU’s Mexico Outreach to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our
senior Pastor Ray Johnston was an annual speaker for the APU
Camp and when Bayside Church began we joined the mission in
spring of 1996 with 26 students and adults. Our Bayside teams
began forming powerful partnerships with pastors and churches in
the Mexicali Valley. As our church has grown we have outgrown
some of our previous campsites. In addition to our numbers growing,
our desire to give students hands on opportunities to make a
difference in Mexico remained has grown exponentially. This year will
mark Bayside’s 20th Anniversary serving in Mexico.

TEAMS
IMPACT
DRAMA
This team works long and hard to
prepare moving dramas and skits to
cross the language barrier and present
the Gospel to the Mexican people.
Drama teams travel throughout the
week and perform at churches, as well
as parks and other venues when given
the opportunity.
Bayside’s
Breakaway Kids
Camp goes to
Mexico! This team
partners with the
local church in
Mexico to minister
to the kids in the
community sharing
the Gospel
message. Key
components to
impact teams are
games, Bible
stories, arts and
crafts, worship
and giving lots of
piggyback rides.
CONSTRUCTION
Our construction teams build homes for
families in need that are connected to
the churches and communities where
we work. These teams spend the entire
week constructing a 2-bedroom home
in one week. Construction leads need
students who are focused, committed
and not afraid of hard work.
FESTIVAL
college
This traveling team brings some extra
fun to our Impact Teams. Throughout
the week, festival teams bring a mini
carnival to the churches with bounce
houses, face painting, balloon animals
and games.
SPORTS
Soccer clinics and camps are a great
draw for kids in the communities we
work with. Our sports teams will
combine the fundamentals of soccer
and key Biblical themes to reach kids
from ages 5-17. Sports team members
have to love kids and should have
some soccer experience and a love for
the game.
CONSTRUCTION
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Our construction teams build
homes for families in need that
are connected to the churches
and communities where we
work. These teams spend the
entire week constructing a
2-bedroom home in one week.
Construction leads need
students who are focused,
committed and not afraid of
hard work.
Com Serve is a wild card team
that serve throughout the
community doing projects that
range from painting projects,
ministering to the homeless,
building play structures, city
projects, park clean ups and
more, depending on the existing
needs. This team requires
flexibility and a “can do”
attitude.
Everybody’s gotta eat
and at “Camp Bayside”
we eat well. This team
has a blast feeding the
masses and fueling the
ministry.
basecamp/adult teams
FOOD
We depend on our
security team to keep
camp secure, assist in
camp logistics and
make sure we are all
having fun.
SECURITY
Doctors, nurse and
other health care
professionals serve our
camp keeping us
healthy and assisting in
any first aid needs.
FIRST AID
Help us take care of our
own people at camp!
The Hospitality team
creates a fun
environment at base
camp for all participants
including running our
camp store, adult leader
areas and more.
HOSPITALITY
special teams
The Spartan Team leaves
earlier than the main group
to set up Camp Bayside.
This team is for students of
all ages and adults who are
willing to do and go above
and beyond. Spartans arrive
at camp to an empty field
and are responsible for
setting up tents, preparing
basecamp and having a fully
functional facility ready for
the main group. After the
rest of the trip participants
arrive, Spartans join
whatever team they are
assigned to, meaning you
would also need to pick a
regular team.
SPARTANS
Not able to go with us, but
want to serve? A parent of a
student and want to support
the trip? We have a big need
for volunteers to help
before, during and after the
trip. Office help, assisting us
in fundraising events,
registration team,
transportation, logistics,
weekend promotion and
more… there’s always a
need.

FUNDRAISE YEAR-ROUND
Many of our students fundraise for this trip year-round by
housesitting, housecleaning, babysitting, selling arts &
crafts, dog washing & more – just about anything you can
think of. Another great idea would be to ask for donations
for your trip in lieu of birthday or Christmas presents.
Think creatively and outside the box!
MEXICAN FIESTA
We will be hosting our 2nd Annual Fiesta Fundraiser
where students can sell raffle tickets, serve/volunteer,
solicit/donate auction items and more. More info will be
available at registration. Selling raffle tickets can
potentially cover the entire cost of the trip!
SUPPORT LETTERS
Visit our website, baysideonline.com/mexico and
download the “support raising instructions” document.
This letter is for you to personalize & send out to friends,
family, teachers, neighbors, anyone you can think of! One
student even got a donation from his orthodontist! The
letter asks for people to become part of your Mexico
team by being your prayer warriors and/or your financial
support team. We recommend you send these out as
soon as you register – don’t procrastinate!
We have a small fund & can sometimes offer partial
scholarships. Financial scholarships are awarded based
on a variety of criteria including a review of the
participant’s efforts to raise their own funds. Scholarship
request forms will be available with registration materials.
TEAM LEADER
LEADERSHIP
Each Team Leader has had significant experience with
Bayside Mexico Outreach and Student Ministries at
Bayside, and has proven themselves in their ability to
communicate clearly, maintain positive attitude, carry
themselves with maturity, build healthy relationships
and execute on the plans and directives of Bayside.
Team Leaders are responsible for providing oversight
at ministry sites and holding teens to safety measures
they agreed to during training. Team Leaders are
responsible for developing their Student Leaders
spiritually and holding them accountable to growth
opportunities.
Ideally a Team Leader has completed Belong 101 and
is actively a part of a small group.
ASSISTANT ADULT LEADER
Assistant Leaders provide leadership support to the
senior level team leaders by assisting with the many
logistics of the project. Assistant Adult Leaders must
also have proven themselves in their ability to
communicate clearly, maintain positive attitude, carry
themselves with maturity, build healthy relationships
and execute on the plans and directives of Bayside.
STUDENT LEADER
Student Leaders are responsible for casting vision to
the team and directing ministry on a daily basis. They
should develop their teams spiritually and hold them
accountable to growth opportunities. They are
expected to help their peers process through their trip
as it progresses. Student Leaders should be confident
and ready to vocally direct a large group of students in
the right direction. Student Leaders are accountable to
the Youth Staff and Team Leader.
