1B’s Spanish Day! We located Spain using maps and globes. We learnt the basic Flamenco steps and made up our own Flamenco dances to traditional music. We learnt how to say hello and goodbye as well as how to ask a person’s name and tell them yours. We enjoyed eating paella and drinking sangria. In 1B we began the day by finding out where in the world Spain was using maps and globes. We looked at cities in Spain and also found out which countries are its neighbours. We then took a ‘trip to Spain’ using rolling drama to show the kinds of activities we could do whilst we were there. In the afternoon, we learnt how to count to 5 in Spanish as well as simple greetings which we then used to greet our partners. We also learnt how to Flamenco dance and even tried paella and sangria which was delicious! 5C Spanish Day Locating Spain on large map and discussing key facts they know about the world and Spain’s place in it. Sorting some of the key physical and human environments in Spain. Using I pads to research more landmarks in Spain and plotting them on smaller maps. Food tasting churros, a Spanish meat selection and olives. Children reflected on their prior knowledge of map work to locate Spain and discuss key facts about its location. They were able to identify countries surrounding Spain, the continent it is in and also correct each other’s misconceptions in regards to Spanish facts. Children then learnt about the human physical features within an environment and applied this to use the I pads to research the landscape and key landmarks in Spain. Children then applied this knowledge by plotting key landmarks on a map of Spain. Children also tasted and evaluated a range of Spanish foods. Many of the Spanish meats were a hit but the olives didn’t go down too well. Children enjoyed learning about churros and were able to identify customs and traditions by learning about when they would be eaten. Children also enjoyed talking about briefly about the different countries which speak Spanish and the history of the Spanish explorers. Reception Spanish Day! We learned how to Flamenco dance to traditional music We made fans. We looked at traditional Spanish designs and made up own own We chopped fruit to make our own fruit Sangria and then sat in the sunshine to enjoy it! We played football together in our outdoor area. Reception began their Spanish day by following Barnaby Bear on a trip around the world to locate Spain on a map. We found out what the capital city was and looked at some of the important differences between Spain and our own country. We watched some famous Flamenco dancing and copied some of the moves to make up our own routines which we shared with the rest of our class. We sat in the sunshine (just like they do in Spain) and made fruit Sangria. It was delicious! We made fans to cool ourselves down in the warm sunshine and enjoyed a friendly game of football, team 1 was Madrid & team 2 was Barcelona! Spanish Day in 3S We learned Spanish phrases and had a conversation with our partner. We learned how to say numbers and colours in Spanish. We learned about school life and made a leaflet about what Spanish schools are like. In 3S, we explored maps of Spain to find out where it was in the world. We learned lots of Spanish phrases and communicated with our partner in Spanish by greeting each other in different ways. We learned how to say colours and numbers in Spanish. Finally, as part of our World Music, we explored the origins of flamenco dancing and learned about what happens at the Seville Fair. Spanish Day By 4B We learned the Spanish numbers and practised with each other. We found out lots of facts about Spain that we didn’t know already and we designed our very own fact sheet. We also learned the Spanish colours and we were talking in Spanish to each other, it was fun! We looked at a range of Spanish music and dancing. We even learned a bit of Salsa, it was lots of fun wiggling our hips! We had lots of fun during Spain day, we found out lots of things that we didn’t know already! First of all we had an assembly to learn all about Spain and where it is located. When we returned to the classroom we had fun learning the Spanish numbers, colours and to ask how we are in Spanish. We had lots of conversations in Spanish. Later on we learned lots of facts about Spain that we didn’t know already and created our very own fact file. In the afternoon we learned Salsa that was really fun and very embarrassing! A Fantastic day of fun! Spanish European Languages Day! Y6 – 19/05/14 We used Atlases to learn about the location and topography of Spain. We explored Spanish culture, learning about Flamenco dancing and exciting national events. We learnt to use a number of key phrases in Spanish, including introducing ourselves and our likes and dislikes. For a whole day, Y6 pupils were immersed in the exciting world of Spain… By taking part in a number of activities, pupils learnt about Spain’s national identify: about its culture, its heritage and about modern Spain today. Pupils developed their map-work skills by working with Atlases to draw maps of their own. They also took part in a number of role-plays to develop their use of the Spanish language. Pupils were inspired by the day and it has left them wanting to find out more! Spanish Week in 4S We learnt the numbers up to 20 in Spanish and played a Numeracy game with them. We created an information page about everything we had learnt during the day. We learnt about traditional Spanish dances and even had a go at Salsa dacning! 4S had a brilliant day, learning all about Spain. We learnt some the language (greetings, numbers, colours) and had simple conversations in Spanish. We also learnt about the culture and food of Spain and famous people who are from that country. The children now know where Spain is located in Europe and on a World Map. They are also more aware of the cultural differences between Britain and Spain, as well as some elements of the language. Spanish Week in 1H We tasted traditional Spanish paella and children’s sangria! They were both delicious! We learnt about traditional Flamenco dancing and shared our moves with the class. 1H had a great day learning all about Spain. We arrived at school wearing the colours of the national flag and shared our experiences of going on holiday! We then learnt some new language including how to say hello, please and thank you! We all enjoyed speaking to each other using these new words. When the sun came out we went outside and learnt some new dance moves to help us perform a flamenco show! We had a fantastic time adding some clicks with our fingers, stomps with our feet and shouting ole! Lots of the children in 1H said they would like to visit Spain in the future. Today we have been learning about Spain, we looked at a map to locate Spain in the world, we listened to and practised talking and Spanish. We said ‘Hello’ and ‘Goodbye’ and our numbers to 10! We then had a go at Flamenco Spanish dancing and collaged Spanish flags! Spanish Day in 3E We learned Spanish phrases and had a conversation with our partner. We learned about school life and made a leaflet about what Spanish schools are like. Firstly we discovered where in the world Spain is. We learnt a range of different greetings, such as hello, goodbye, how are you, I’m good thank you. We practiced having a conversation with our partner. We then learnt how to count up to 10 in Spanish, some of use already knew some of these numbers! We learnt some basic colours and then completed a Spanish colour by numbers picture. Finally we learnt what it was like to be at school in Spain. We learnt some very interesting facts! Year 2 Spanish Day We acted out activities and things we would see on a visit to Spain. We enjoyed tasting Paella. We tried Flamenco dancing and playing castanets to Spanish music. After the Flamenco dancing we had a glass of Sangria to cool us down. First we used atlases and globes to locate Spain. We identified the countries that border Spain, the seas and oceans that surround it and named the capital city. After that we watched a video to find out about the landmarks, food, landscape and pastimes. We then worked in groups to create a rolling drama to show our visit through Spain. Once we had found out more about the country we wrote a postcard to describe all of the things we had seen on our journey. We all enjoyed learning to say numbers to 10 in Spanish and learnt how to great people. The Flamenco dance is the traditional dance of Spain and we had a go at learning the basic steps. It was tiring work so it was nice to have a glass of Sangria and some Paella after all the dancing! 5c’s Spanish Day Locating Spain and the countries around it Spanish Food Tasting Using the I pads to research famous landmarks in Spain Attempting Spanish Dancing Children in year 5 had a fantastic day learning about Spain. Children started the day locating Spain on a world map and identifying the continent it was in and the countries surrounding it. Following this children researched both the human and physical features of Spain using the I pads. Other activities included food tasting, learning how so say simple greetings and numbers as well as Spanish dancing. As a result of this very exciting day children now have a better understanding of the culture of Spain and have improved their geography skills.
