The role of precursor behaviors/situations will also be reviewed. Within the context of the reactive component of behavior intervention planning, strategies that aim to decrease the probability of problem behaviors will also be reviewed. This will include reviewing common pitfalls school staff may encounter and the importance of avoiding power struggles with students. Case examples of young and older students will be discussed and reviewed throughout the presentation in order to emphasize all the components of the behavioral intervention process. In looking beyond the foundational components of a BIP, additional strategies will be covered including the use of visual support strategies, contingency mapping, and cognitiveemotional strategies. The overall structure and outline of a written BIP will also be reviewed.
