SANTA CRUZ COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION UTILITY WORKER DEFINITION Under immediate supervision, to perform a variety of duties involved in warehouse stocking, storage and inventory; to perform bindery duties in the print shop; and to pick up and deliver a variety of educational materials, instructional supplies, equipment, and mail from and to various school sites in the county. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Exercise no supervision. EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES Receive, warehouse, and inventory supplies, materials, and equipment for the County Office. Maintain work and storage areas in a clean and orderly condition. Perform custodial, maintenance, painting, and related duties as requested. Assist department personnel with routine manual labor and technical tasks. Assist in preparation of publications; collate, punch, bind, and store materials. Operate a fork lift and other warehouse equipment. Deliver and pick up supplies, educational materials, equipment and mail between the County Office of Education and various school sites. Review delivery requests to verify incoming and outgoing materials; sort materials and pack orders for delivery; load and unload delivery vehicle with materials, supplies, mail and equipment. Clean and maintain delivery vehicle; refuel, add oil, and check tires on a regular basis; diagnose operating difficulties; report need for repairs. Pick up materials from vendors as assigned. Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned. JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Basic methods of warehousing, storage, and distribution. Proper methods of storing equipment. Basic bindery operations. Routine vehicle maintenance requirements. Skill and Ability to: Operate a forklift. Operate a motor vehicle safely. Operate a variety of print shop and bindery equipment. Learn County Office procedures and operations related to stocking, inventory, and delivery functions. Learn rules and procedures regulating freight and parcel shipments, requisitions, invoices and delivery slips. Learn the location of all schools and district offices in the county. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Perform accurate mathematical computations. Work under supervision within a well-defined framework of standard policies and procedures. Establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: Education: Equivalent to a twelfth grade education including formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. Experience: One year of experience in warehousing, storage activities, delivery, and care and cleaning of building facilities and grounds. License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
