If Al-Jazeera reaches English-speaking Arabs and Muslims in the U.S. with its incendiary messages, we could see suicide bombings on the streets of America and the development of more al Qaeda cells plotting 9/11-type terrorist attacks. America’s Survival, Inc. Cliff Kincaid, President 1 www.usasurvival.org Dr. Judea Pearl, father of slain journalist Daniel Pearl, has informed us, in regard to this controversy, “I support your call to investigate the impact of this transaction.” His statement reads as follows: “A decade of watching over its programs has left me no doubt: Al Jazeera is the main propaganda machine of the Muslim Brotherhood. Posing as a benign alternative communication medium, Al Jazeera choreographs a world stage in which the West is a perennial villain, Hamas is the ultimate role model, and entire societies are dehumanized to a lower form of life, stripped of any mark of dignity or empathy. While refraining from explicit incitement to violence, Al Jazeera weaves the ideological structure and combustible angers from which Jihadi recruits eventually emerge.” In a statement in 2011, he said: “With the growing number of social misfits in society, and the growing confusion between ‘information’ and deception in the news media, the danger of fueling combustible anger in some viewers cannot be ignored, especially when pumped subliminally by well-respected Western anchors. Considering our current concern over the increase of home-grown terrorism incidents, this danger is not to be taken lightly.” In Crescent Moon Rising (Prometheus Books), journalist Paul L. Williams examines the phenomenal rise of Islam in the United States and discusses its implications. He addresses a number of disturbing concerns about some aspects of the Muslim presence in America. These include “the connections between many American mosques with Saudi benefactors who promote an ultra-orthodox, anti-Western agenda; the existence of Muslim paramilitary training grounds recruiting ex-convicts; and the ties of even self-described moderate Muslim spokespersons with more politically radical elements.” 2 Film footage of captured terrorists in Iraq shows they came to kill Americans because of Al Jazeera. NBC News reporter Lisa Myers said: “Why do they go? Saudis captured in Iraq say it's because of pictures on Arab television network Al-Jazeera. ’We saw the Americans massacring the Iraqis,’ says one Saudi prisoner in Iraq via translation. The same thing can happen on the streets of America. 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who is now in Guantanamo but had been scheduled by the Obama Administration for a civilian trial in the U.S., was protected by the government of Qatar, which funds Al Jazeera. Mohammed boasted of the murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, saying that he “decapitated with my blessed right hand the head of the American Jew, Daniel Pearl, in the city of Karachi, Pakistan. For those who would like to confirm, there are pictures of me on the Internet holding his head.” The new film, “Zero Dark Thirty,” mentions that the courier who eventually led the CIA to bin Laden was located in Pakistan near an Al Jazeera office in order to get the terrorist leader’s videotapes to the channel for worldwide distribution. This captures an essential truth about Al Qaeda – its use of Al-Jazeera as a weapon of war. CNN reports that a document found in bin Laden’s compound after his death referred to a meeting with the Al-Jazeera bureau chief in Pakistan. A still photograph from an undated video released by the Department of Defense of the materials from the compound showed bin Laden watching television and holding a remote control. Al-Jazeera was his favorite television channel until the time of his death. What would the greatest generation say about “Al Jazeera America?” The taking over of an American cable channel by Al-Jazeera is tantamount to giving American broadcast facilities during World War II to “Tokyo Rose” and “Axis Sally.” Tokyo Rose was the name given to an American broadcasting on Tokyo shortwave radio, while Axis Sally was “The American voice of Nazi Germany” and was broadcasting on Berlin radio. Both of them were apprehended and prosecuted for treason and sent to prison. 3 Al Jazeera is a front for Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood and supports the Mali terrorists who kidnap and kill Americans Al Manar, the television station associated with the Hezbollah terrorist group, has been banned from the U.S. Al Jazeera has functioned as a front of al Qaeda. Congress should examine Al Jazeera as a global terrorist entity which serves as a mouthpiece for the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda. The State Department’s own human rights report says that “the government [Qatar] exercised editorial and programmatic control of the channel through funding and selection of the station’s management.” The French media openly report that Qatar is supporting the Mali terrorists with various kinds of assistance. The Al Jazeera story, headlined, “Mali: The ‘gentle’ face of al-Qaeda,” is a case in point of how the channel serves the regime. In the channel’s “exclusive report from inside northern Mali,” Al Jazeera English reporter May Ying Welsh said the terrorists “are playing the role of humanitarians” by providing food to local people. While the word 4 “gentle” is in quotes, as if it comes from some objective observer, the story is sympathetic to the terrorists and critical of the “foreign intervention” that is needed to stop them. One of the photos is captioned, “The Mujahideen distribute charity in hospitals and slums.” Another is captioned, “Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb calls for preserving the territorial integrity of Mali.” In another case, the UK Guardian reported that, “Al-Jazeera's editorial independence has been called into question after its director of news stepped in to ensure a speech made by Qatar's emir to the UN led its English channel's coverage of the debate on Syrian intervention.” What American Muslims and radicals will not see on “Al Jazeera America.” The network’s mantra is, “The heart of the story. Every Angle. Every Side.” But that’s less believable now because of the failure of the channel to cover the attack on CBS News reporter Lara Logan while covering the Muslim Brotherhood revolution in Egypt. Jonathan Capehart of The Washington Post, a leading liberal commentator, said the silence of the network on this matter was “deafening.” . 5 The assault on Logan occurred on February 11, 2011. “She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers,” CBS reported. “Logan left the hospital on Wed. Feb. 16, to recover in her Washington, D.C. home. One blogger commented, “The lack of coverage is not only shocking, it is unethical. After having reported and given air time to the situation facing its reporters, it appears Al Jazeera was not willing to give the same due time to a rival reporter, one enduring arguably a worse experience. It is unacceptable that the Qatar-based network remained, and remains, silent.” The blogger added, “By not covering the situation, Al Jazeera made a political decision. They seemed to gloss over the story for fear it would tarnish the Egyptian Revolution.” That revolution was supported by Qatar. Al Jazeera Supports the Radical Muslim and Far-left Campaign to Free “Lady al Qaeda” Aafia Siddiqui. Siddiqui married 9/11 planner Ammar al-Baluchi and carried on research on biological weapons at his request. She was convicted of attempted murder and received a 86-year prison sentence for shooting at FBI agents and soldiers after her arrest in Afghanistan. Her attorney, Linda Moreno, represented terrorist finacier Sami al-Arian and the chairman of the board of the Holy Land Foundation in the Hamas terror finance case. She spoke at the 2010 16th annual fundraising banquet of the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of Hamas-linked CAIR. Al-Mulathameen Brigade leader Moktar Belmoktar (AKA Khalid Abu al-Abbas) demanded the cessation of French intervention in Mali and offered to exchange American hostages for Omar Abdul Rahman and Aafia Siddiqui in a video obtained by Sahara Media, a Mauritania-based news organization. In the U.S., the movement by American Muslims to free captured terrorist Siddiqui includes Ramsey Clark, the Workers World Party (WWP) and the Party for Socialism and Liberation. Some members of the former left to form the latter. They operate front organizations such as ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) and the International Action Center. The Workers World Party had been investigated by the House Internal Security Committee for its support of the North Korean regime and Arab terrorist groups. 6 7 Communists and radical Muslims saluted Ramsey Clark’s Anti-American Agenda. January 12, 2012. Note the “From Behind the Wall” section includes terrorist attorney Lynne Stewart, who represented the “Blind Sheikh,” and convicted terrorist financier Sami Al-Arian. The American Muslim Task Force (AMT), a coalition of major Muslim Brotherhood groups, supports the “Free Aafia” movement. Al Jazeera sends American Muslims the incendiary message that the imprisonment of terrorists like Siddiqui is a violation of human rights that must be rectified on the streets of America and Pakistan. 8 Mamoun Fandy, an expert on the Arab media, has called Al-Jazeera “the Muslim Brotherhood channel.” His book, Uncivil War of Words: Media and Politics in the Arab World, notes that Al-Jazeera glorified Muslim Brotherhood founder Hassan Al-Bannah, in a two-part documentary in 2006. In 2003 testimony to the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, he said Al-Jazeera’s reporters and correspondents constitute a “who is who in the rank and file of the Brotherhood.” 9 Spanish-born Al Jazeera correspondent Tayseer Alouni, who interviewed bin Laden, was actually imprisoned in Spain for being an agent of al-Qaeda. He carried funds for the terrorist group. Al Jazeera paid for his defense. Alouni's trial and the other 34 accused was the first to establish a direct link between an AlQaeda cell in Spain and the planning and execution of the 9/11 attacks on U.S. Alouni "In January 1996," as noted by Associated Press, "the U.S. government tried to have Mohammed detained in Qatar and turned over to U.S. authorities, but was unsuccessful…By the middle of the year, the Qatari government reported it had lost track of him, sparking concerns that someone in the government had tipped him off." He fled to Pakistan, where he was captured in 2003. 10 Big Oil Backs Al Jazeera and Qatar U.S.-Qatar Business Council Founding Members Al Jazeera Qatar Airways Chevron Corporation Qatari Diar ConocoPhillips Qatar Petroleum ExxonMobil RasGas Occidental Petroleum Corporation Executive Members ATCS International Industry Arabic Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide The Boeing Company Latham & Watkins Tanween Booz Allen Hamilton Lockheed Martin Target Brown Brothers Harriman & Co Magellan Development Trags Trading & Agency Services Ltd. Under this process, a Chinese entity had to be approved to buy the AMC movie threater chain. Al Jazeera by-passed the process. Al Jazeera has evaded the law requiring federal approval for foreign investments in America that have national security implications. Al Jazeera has issued a 26-page document in which it claims that the deal “does not involve any federal communications licenses or other assets subject to FCC approval.” Again, this is deceptive, since broadcaster Jerry Kenney has filed an FCC complaint about Al Jazeera programming being illegally aired on taxpayer-supported public TV stations. Al Jazeera also claims that “None of the statutory factors that trigger a CFIUS review—e.g., production of important technology, production of military goods, operation of critical infrastructure—are implicated in this transaction.” 14 CFIUS is the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States and is under the jurisdiction of the Treasury Department. It is described as “an interagency committee authorized to review transactions that could result in control of a U.S. business by a foreign person (‘covered transactions’), in order to determine the effect of such transactions on the national security of the United States.” What “covered transactions” come under the review of CFIUS? We have learned through press reports that CFIUS approved China-based Dalian Wanda Group Corporation’s purchase of AMC Entertainment, one of the nation’s largest movie theater chains. The CFIUS process is secretive but we learned about this approval from the Chinese entity, which announced it in a press release in July of 2012. The writer Zach Coleman notes, “News broadcasting is more politically sensitive than cinema operation and Al Jazeera is a much more controversial acquirer than Dalian Wanda, which was previously unknown in the US.” This is precisely the case. Yet, Al Jazeera claims it had no obligation to obey the law in this case. In 2006, Congress protested the Dubai Ports deal, in which a Dubai-owned company had sought to take over operations at U.S. ports. Then-Senator Barack Obama said: “Over four years after the worst terrorist attack in our history, not only are we failing to inspect 95% of the cargo that arrives at U.S. ports, but now we’re allowing our port security to be outsourced to foreign governments. Clearly, more time should have been spent investigating this deal and consulting with homeland security experts and local officials. I support my colleagues on both sides of the aisle who are seeking a full review of this deal.” 15 Commentator Ben Barrack says: When it comes to the Dubai Ports deal and the sale of Current TV to Al Jazeera, there is one primary difference when it comes to American political leaders; Bush received bi-partisan opposition and Gore is receiving only conservative opposition. Other issues include: • Why have taxpayer-funded public broadcasting facilities, in violation of Federal Communication Commission (FCC) rules, turned over their facilities to foreign propaganda channels Al Jazeera, Russia Today, and others? • Why has the Department of Justice not enforced the law requiring that foreign television channels operating on American soil label their broadcasts as foreign propaganda under the Foreign Agents Registration Act? Chinese Buy Movie Theater Chain and Goes Through CFIUS but Al Jazeera is Above the Law If the Chinese buying a movie theater chain comes under the auspices of CFIUS, then a takeover of a cable channel reaching 40-50 million homes has to qualify as well. Jerry Kenney, president of Kenney Broadcasting, says, “It’s even more insidious in the case of Al Jazeera because cable companies bundle these packages of channels and deliver them to your home, whether you watch them or not. You end up subsidizing the channels you don’t want. Current TV was actually getting a fee from the cable operators to run the channel. So subscribers who pay for that package will end up paying money to Al Jazeera for its new channel.” In the case of a movie theater, Kenney points out, “you have to make an effort to get out of your home to drive to a theater to watch a movie. With Al Jazeera, you will be forced to pay for it coming into your own home, whether you want it or not.” 16 Current TV (Current Media) Directors and named executive officers include Richard C.
