G1, G2, S,G0 phases The Longest phase of the cell cycle. Metabolic reactions, DNA replication and a number of organelles increase in quantity during the Interphase. Interphase consists of 3 sub phases, G1, S and G2 phase. Mitosis (2h/24h) Interphase (22h/24h) The G1 phase is the first growth or gap phase that the cell goes through. This Phase the cell increases in size preparing for Cell division. This phase is before the cells DNA replicates The S Phase is where DNA is synthesized. (where the DNA replicates) The S stands for Synthesize. This phase is before the Prophase of Mitsosis but after the DNA has been synthesized. During this phase many Organelles, namely mitochondria and ribosomes, increase in numbers while the cell prepares for Mitosis. Supercoiling is when the DNA of a cell coils itself to make a more compact version of itself so it can move into the smaller sister cell easier. DNA wraps around Histones to make Nucleosomes Nucleosomes are further wrapped and make Solenoids Solenoids are then grouped into Looped Domains The Looped Domains then coil a final time and create Chromosomes.
