If dues are paid after December 1, the member may participate in a chapter event or as a voting delegate and may attend workshops but MAY NOT participate in any individual or team competitive event. Due to the size of our organization, Future Business Leaders of America, participation at the State Leadership Conference (SLC) must be determined from District Leadership Conference (DLC) results. EVENTS: • • • • Each active FBLA Chapter is to involve as many of their members as possible. REMEMBER: District events fall into three categories – individual, team, and chapter. A participant may compete in two events at the District level, but may not enter two live judged events (Ex. Job Interview and Business Ethics). A member may not have competed in the same individual event at a previous National Conference. o Repeating Participants: A member who has competed as an individual entry in a team event, may compete in the same event a second time as part of a team, but not as an individual again. See the Chapter Management Handbook to identify individual, team, and chapter events. In the event the participant qualifies for state in two events, he/she must choose one event and notify the Vice President and Adviser within one week following the district conference. A student may only compete in only one (1) event at the state level. • HANDBOOK: • • • All advisers should have the most recent copy of the Colorado and National Chapter Management Handbooks. Please refer to these handbooks before completing the following registration materials, and make certain your participants are familiar with the event guidelines before arrival at the District Leadership Conference. If you do not have the Colorado current handbook updates, you may download the file from the State FBLA Website (www.fbla-pbl.cccs.edu), FBLA Adviser’s Corner. The National FBLA office provides the National Chapter Management Handbook. It is the Chapter’s responsibility to follow CURRENT guidelines. DISTRICT OFFICERS: • This is the time for local chapters to select candidates for the next District Secretary and Reporter. We need your cooperation and support in making this a meaningful event at our district conference. Being a district officer can be a real educational opportunity as well as loads of fun. Encourage your members to become involved. Application forms and other information for potential district officers are included in the Colorado Chapter Management Handbook; duplicate as necessary for your candidates. STATE OFFICERS: • Encourage your members to run for a state office. Each chapter may only run three (3) candidates. Refer to the State Officer Guideline, located on the State Officer page of the Colorado Web Site. STATE SELECTION COMMITTEE: Each district is encouraged to select a student to serve on the Selection Committee at the State Leadership Conference. In order to be eligible, a student must be a one-year (+) member of FBLA, 1. May not be from the same chapter as an officer candidate, 2. May not be competing at the State Conference and must be available for two days at the conference. 3. Provide a completed application and resume with district conference registration forms The final selection is up to the individual district. If the position is not filled during the scheduled district conference activities, the State Vice President will appoint a member of their choice. The appointment must be made prior to the State Leadership Conference registration deadline. 3 DISTRICT CONFERENCE: This is an opportunity for local chapter members to come into contact with fellow members pursuing business related careers, evaluate in a competitive way their personal skill growth, and derive the benefits of affiliation with FBLA beyond the local level. • Pre-registration is REQUIRED for proper planning and organization. Please use the enclosed forms for this purpose and mail directly to your State Vice President. • No refunds will be given; however, substitutions may be made if the need arises. Substitutions must be a duespaid member. No substitutions are allowed for computer production events. All persons registered must be paid for whether they come to conference or not. Substitution forms are available in your registration packet, and must be submitted to conference headquarters upon arrival. • Each chapter is encouraged to bring guests to observe the day’s activities, but they must also register for the conference and pay the registration free. • Each chapter is responsible for providing sufficient supervision for their chapter members (12 members to one adviser) at the District Leadership Conference. • Persons participating in the conference are encouraged to attend general sessions, workshops, and election proceedings. • Rules of good conduct outlined in the Chapter Management Handbook MUST be followed. • Completed MEDICAL FORMS and CODE OF CONDUCT VERIFICATION STATEMENTS must be available through the local adviser (keep in your possession at all times). These forms are located in the Chapter Management Handbook; duplicate as necessary for your members. DRESS CODE: • Appropriate business/conference attire is mandatory for all attendees—advisers, members and guests---at all general sessions, competitive events, workshops and other activities unless otherwise stated in the conference program. Participants will NOT be admitted to workshops and competitive events if in violation of the dress code. Furthermore, competitors will not walk on stage during the awards session if seen violating the dress code. Conference nametags are part of the dress code and must be worn at all times during the conference. • Students, as well as advisers, through their participation in FBLA, should develop a keen awareness of the image one’s attire projects in the business world.
