Explore the Concept of Hard Work
• Show children a 100 Days of Hard Work! Certificate along
with the Stickers. Have children notice the image of the
pretend worker ants marching up the hill carrying crayons. • Talk with children about how ants are often seen as a symbol
for hard work as they are able to lift about 20 times their
own body weight. (Calculate how much weight that would
represent for a child their age of average weight.)
• Invite children to share examples of when hard work is
enjoyable, as well as when it requires patience to reach a
goal. • Have children offer examples of people who work hard as well
as the specific “hard” work they do.
• Have children list some ways they believe they engaged in
“hard work” over the last 100 days. Crowning Glory Parade
Here’s an idea for a classroom display you can create using the
Certificates and Stickers that come with this set. Assemble
the display as part of your 100th Day celebration plans.
1. Cover a bulletin board with plain colored craft paper.
2. Title your display, “We’ve Completed XXX Days of Hard Work!”
(Add up the number of students in your classroom, multiply
by 100 and substitute that number for the XXXs.)
3. Make copies of the I’m A Hard Worker! Reproducible page.
4. After conducting the discussion as described above, have
children complete the reproducible pages so as to reflect
the hard work of which they are most proud.
5. In addition to the page, offer each child a removable sticky
note. Have them jot their ideas on the note for you to edit
on the spot. They can then transfer their polished ideas to
the blank on the reproducible page.
6. Take individual photos of children holding their Certificates;
use copies of these photos to illustrate students’
reproducible pages.
7. Add a sticker to each reproducible page.
• Prepare Certificates ahead of time by filling in each blank
space with the name of a student recipient.
8. On the 100th Day, have children take turns reading their reproducible pages aloud.
• Before issuing the Certificates and Stickers, ask children
to share their thoughts about what we mean by the phrase
“hard work” and/or when we say that someone is a hard
worker.
9. Tack each Certificate along with its corresponding
reproducible page to the display.
