Construction to create the SRN started on April 20th, 1965. Building was completed
the next year in April 1966. The first line of service was from Echo to Mulford, TX. In
1967, the track extended to Mauriceville and Bessmay. Then the Evadale branch
started construction in June 1988, and then opened in early 1990. Owens Illinois
owned the SRN until 1986. Temple-Inland owned the SRN from 1986 until February
13th, 2012 when International Paper acquired Temple-Inland. International Paper is
now the parent company for the SRN.
