Although the entire town of Springerville, AZ has been evacuated, 37 staff members remain behind at White Mountain Regional Medical Center to primarily treat injured public safety officials and provide hydration. The hospital CEO stated the staff are being encouraged to stay at the hospital for their own safety and that the hospital would be evacuated if it becomes non-­‐viable as a healthcare facility and/or non-­‐defendable from the fire. Mass gatherings are of concern to the healthcare sector for multiple reasons, including being potential mass casualty incidents as the result of natural or man-­‐made hazards, and also provide venues for transmission of communicable diseases.
