Summer School for Pianists “The notes I handle no better than many pianists. But the pauses between the notes—ah, that is where the art resides.” ~Artur Schnabel For advanced students, teachers and serious amateurs. “The piano keys are black and white but they sound like a million colours in your mind” ~Maria Cristina Mena This is a weekend designed for people who are looking to immerse themselves in the art and study of playing the piano. There will be opportunities for individual practice, private instruction, piano ensembles and performing as well as group discussions on technique and interpretation. “When you play never mind who listens to you” ~Robert Schumann Participants should bring a minimum of 3 pieces representing 3 different eras of the keyboard repertoire (Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th & 21st Century). Notes should already be learned so that time can be spent developing the interpretation and presentation of the piece. “It’s like a whole orchestra, the piano for me. And also it’s to me the greatest instrument. ” ~Dave Brubeck “Prayer is when you talk to God. Meditation is when you are listening. Playing the piano allows you to do both at the same time.” ~Kelsey Grammer Participants are encouraged but not required to play in one of the Master classes. Piano Duos will be assigned on the first day.
