The Academic Computing Technology Specialist is a full-time, 12-month, at-will/exempt position that reports to the Director of the Academic Instructional Technology Center. This position functions as the Blackboard help desk providing technological assistance to students and instructors relating to the institutions Learning Management System. The Tech Specialist also provides level 1 classroom support for supported technologies and instructional technology assistance for faculty in the classroom.

Position Description:

Blackboard/Distance Learning Technologies o Remotely and in-person provide technology support and troubleshooting to both students and instructors for issues related to Blackboard Learn, the institutions Learning

Management System, and it’s associated institutionally supported technologies. o Provide guidance to both students and faculty in regards to Blackboard and its functions, this includes tutorials and trainings both face to face and at a distance. o Assist students and faculty with ASU’s Online Live Classroom, Blackboard Collaborate. o Supports faculty with basic course facilitation and technology related to Blackboard. o Assist faculty with the streaming of course videos for fully online courses, ensuring that faculty are aware of copyright laws. o Serves as a liaison between departments and Computing Services for issues related to enrollment in courses and Blackboard. o Provide occasional after-hours support as needed based on student and faculty availability. o Process videos to be streamed in online courses, processed for Youtube or use on the web. o Process videos that are recorded using the in house studio, Echo360.

Classroom Technology/Equipment o Assist campus faculty with technology to support academic instruction across campus. o Provide level 1 support of all campus instructional technologies. o Maintain and support media equipment and checkout processes for faculty/staff use. o Responsible for the creation of student ID cards related to specific departmental programs.

Other Duties

o Act as a resource for all faculty on the understanding of Copyright and the “Teach Act”. o Assist in the training of students and faculty in new distance learning technologies. o Provide initial support and continuous management of printers in McDaniel Hall. o Provide supervision to campus employment position in AITC when filled. o Other Duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications o Bachelor’s degree or 4 years’ experience in a similar position. A combination of education and experience will be considered. o Advanced knowledge of the Blackboard Learn Learning Management System from both student and instructor prospective, including related technologies for troubleshooting purposes. o Advanced knowledge of Echo360 lecture capture and Echo360 personal capture. o Working knowledge of Softchalk Course Authoring Software. o Ability to work with little or no guidance including the implementation of new technologies and systems. o Demonstration of strong interpersonal skills. o Strong verbal and written skills. o Strong critical thinking skills to troubleshoot, adapt to new technologies quickly. o Ability to troubleshoot technology over the phone and using remote technologies with distance students and faculty. o Vision, creativity and teamwork. o Motivation to learn and improve the operation of the center. o Ability to perform above position description.

Preferred Qualifications: o Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Instructional Technology or related field.

Salary: $30,000.00 – 32,000.00 annual salary. Adams State University has a competitive benefits package.
