Pioneer Energy: Battle of the Titans arrives at Royal Botanical Gardens
RBG’s newest exhibit pits Tyrannosaurus rex against Triceratops in match for the ages.
Burlington ON, January 26, 2013 – Something BIG has arrived at Royal Botanical
Gardens (RBG) in the form of Pioneer Energy: Battle of the Titans, a new exhibition
designed to offer a refreshing and exciting new perspective on the world of dinosaurs.
From January 26th through April 7th, 2013, visitors will find out what would happen in a
clash between Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops while discovering nature’s role in both
creating these giants and sending them off to oblivion.
“Royal Botanical Gardens is thrilled to host such a unique event that sets itself apart
from other dinosaur exhibits,” said RBG CEO Mark Runciman. “A combination of expert
artistry and interactive and educational programming will provide our guests with a
memorable experience.”
For more than a century, scientists have known about the existence of these two
fearsome and spectacular adversaries, T.rex (Tyrannosaurus) and TTops (Triceratops)
and since then a fascinated public has wondered what a struggle between these giants
would be like. The answer can be found at RBG, as visitors will have the opportunity to
learn, through stunning replicas and advanced computer simulation, how the
physiological and psychological characteristics of these two very different beasts
determined their fate as they engaged in battle.
Once the battle is over, visitors can touch a T.rex tooth and TTops horn, feel dinosaur
skin, meet a baby dinosaur and watch paleontologists debate who would win the grand
battle. Other highlights include the Digital Dig Pit where one can create a virtual dino
skeleton, and the chance to look through the eyes of the beast with Dino-Vision. The
exhibit also explores the ecology and environment that these majestic creatures lived in
so long ago.
Family programming features days and weekends packed with kids’ events that include
a Prehistoric Puppet Show, Cretaceous Crafts, Story saurus story-time, and Paleo
Programs, featuring an ever-changing line-up of interactive presentations. Special
events include Meet the Paleontologist where visitors can meet a true dino expert,
Virtual Dino Tours from Royal Tyrrell Museum, The Mysterious Case of Who Dung it?,
which takes the audience on a theatrical journey into the sciences of fossilized poop,
and a March Break live animal show that gets up-close and personal.
Adding to the excitement is a full line-up of public programs, school programs and March
Break camps that further establish RBG as the ultimate dino headquarters in the region
this winter.
Dinosaurs: Battle of the Titans was made possible through the support of numerous
