Presenters: Velma Hargis, District Director of Student and Academic Programs, DCCCD &
Dottie Phillips, Associate Registrar and TSI Coordinator NLC, DCCCD TSI Council Chair
Careful and collective planning for DCCC's 2013 TSI implementation began in spring of 2010 by a volunteer team of faculty, staff
and administrators. On August 26, 2013 the new TSI rules were implemented. Presentation will cover the new TSI requirements
concerning College Readiness, TSI Exemptions/Waivers, TSI Assessment, Student Advising and Placement. Examples for practical
application will be reviewed to help advisors recognize "transfer in" TSI status, especially using unofficial transcripts; as well as,
how TSI looks on DCCCD transcripts for our " transferring out" students.

Inside the DCCCD STEM Institute
Presenter: Anthony Denning, Foundation Special Projects Coordinator, DCCCD District Development Office
Now entering its fifth year, the DCCCD STEM Institute has become a catalyst for exceptional student accomplishment. Founded in
the concept of providing high-achieving STEM students a comprehensive approach to pursuing a degree in science, technology,
engineering or mathematics the DCCCD STEM Institute is making a significant impact on retention, graduation, transfer, and
workforce readiness for its participants, the STEM Scholars. A demanding program comprised of strict academic standards,
participation in the DCCCD STEM Faculty Fellow mentoring program, industry focused seminars, and the annual STEM Summit
reward the STEM Scholars with a focused education plan and insight into their professional career path . A recent grant award of
$1.8 million from the W. W. Caruth Foundation has insured the DCCCD STEM Institute's continued support of the remarkable
STEM Scholars and Faculty Fellows, but this story is just beginning.
