18 February 2015 Tena koutou katoa! Nau mai, haere mai ki te kura o Broadgreen BROADGREEN STORY Belonging to Broadgreen is to know our ‘story’ that is what we stand for and who we are, our identity. 4 significant features at our school entrance symbolise our ‘story’ as follows; VOICE BOX: This sculpture is at the front of the school to ensure students are the forefront of our care and considerations. It has sculptured faces of ex-students, the lid of the box is permanently removed to let the ‘voices out’ symbolising the school’s role in developing student voice through learning and leadership. 3 COLUMNS: These columns are the colours of the houses representing our local history, virtues and contributing schools. These acknowledge students’ previous learning and experiences they bring to Broadgreen. The 3 columns represent the 3 opportunity’s presented at Broadgreen ie to self-improve, develop an existing talent/skill further and to challenge oneself through trying something new. MAORI CARVING: This well crafted feature acknowledges the uniqueness of New Zealand and the importance of Maori students and their contributions to Broadgreen. STAR: The star’s at the foot of our flagpole symbolise the Southern Cross constellation. They represent the ‘Broadgreen Way’ ie Safety Together Achieving Respect PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT AT BROADGREEN Intermediate education is often viewed as a transitional time for students as they move from primary to secondary education. The two-year time frame is short and students develop physically and socially rapidly. Often intermediate is viewed by many parents and students as a time of increasing independence and therefore less direct parental involvement with the school. We welcome your involvement. Below is a list of possible opportunities that I encourage you to consider as ways of participating in the ‘life’ of Broadgreen. Your service and contributions are appreciated. False and inappropriate information is often believed and acted upon. Parents are encouraged to be a “friend” of their son or daughter and check regularly what is happening between your child and their internet “friends”. If inappropriate interaction is taking place we recommend you or your child block ("de-friend") them.
