Do not do any strenuous activity for the rest of the day. If your catheter was in your groin, lay flat as much as possible for the rest of the day. If your catheter was in your neck, sit upright as much as possible for the rest of the day. Leave the pressure dressing on until tomorrow (24 hours). You may then remove the tape and all gauze. This includes any gauze that may be tucked into the wound. Clean the wound with soap and water and apply a band-aid. If bleeding occurs, apply pressure for 20 minutes at the upper gauze site. If still bleeding call your physician. If bleeding is uncontrollable by direct pressure, call 911 immediately. If bleeding occurs and your catheter was in your groin, lie down with your feet and hips higher than your head until bleeding stops. If bleeding occurs and your catheter was in your neck, sit upright until bleeding stops.
