Admission to the Program
The YVCC Veterinary Technology Program is
typically a two-year course of study, beginning each
fall, with limited enrollment. Proper study and
successful completion of the program can lead to
an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree in
Veterinary Technology. Graduation provides the
credential to take national and state board
examinations. Upon passing, students receive
licensure as a Veterinary Technician.

Program Description
Veterinary Technicians are an integral part of the animal
health care team, assisting veterinarians and biological
technicians in their work.
The YVCC Veterinary
Technology program provides training for students in:
 animal anatomy &
physiology
 care of food animals
 critical care
 medication
administration
 dental, anesthesia,
radiation techniques
 animal diseases
 microbiology
 pharmacology
 livestock/equine
medicine & nursing
 public health
 medical record keeping
 office procedures
 nursing & restraint of pets
 exotic & lab animals
 surgical assisting
 use of routine hospital
equipment
 veterinary clinical
pathology
 parasitology
 hematology
 medical terminology
 clinical lab principles &
techniques
 client communication
 inventory control
 computer technology
 veterinary ethics

 high school diploma or GED
 one year high school biology with a “C” or better OR
completion of a General Biology with lab (BIOL 109 at
YVCC) with a “C” or better within the last five years.
 one year high school chemistry OR completion of an Intro
to Chemistry class (CHEM 100 at YVCC) with a “C” or better
within the last five years.
 Math Compass exam score (within the last 12 months)
indicating eligibility for Intermediate Algebra.
 Reading Compass exam score (within the last 12 months)
indicating eligibility for college level reading.
 English Compass exam score (within the last 12 months)
indicating eligibility for English 101.
 50 hours of volunteer/observation/paid work at a
veterinary clinic within the last three years and submission
of the Clinical Observation form.
 Three (3) reference forms. One must be from the
veterinarian where observation was completed.
Students must also submit a general application form to YVCC
and be accepted. Apply at www.yvcc.edu.
Admission is based on high school and college grades, meeting
the above-listed program prerequisites, letters of
recommendation, as well as work and veterinary experience.
Accepted students must complete a background and drug
screen test.

Veterinary Technology
Program Faculty & Facilities
YVCC’s Veterinary Technology Program is staffed by
clinically experienced, licensed veterinarians and
veterinary technicians. Facilities include a small
animal ward and a farm for housing large animals.
The program is accredited by the American Veterinary
Medical Association (AVMA).

Denise Moore, Instructional Technician, is a
licensed veterinary technician and graduate of
Yakima Valley Community College.
