THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL LIVE: FILM SCREENING WITH ORCHESTRA FRIDAY November 13, 2015 – 8pm A Fox Films Series Special Add-on Bring your entire family to this extraordinary LIVE orchestra performance and screening of Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Filled with unparalleled magic and imagination, this heartwarming masterpiece is one of the brightest stars in motion picture history. E.T. follows the moving story of a lost little alien, who befriends a 10-year-old boy named Elliott (Henry Thomas), while searching for a way to return to his home planet, three-million light years away. The San Diego Symphony Orchestra performs John Williams’ entire Academy Award®-winning score LIVE while this beloved film is shown in HD on the big screen. THE CAT AND THE CANARY (1927) FLESH AND THE DEVIL (1926) THE HAUNTED HOUSE (1921) + THE CAT AND THE CANARY (1927) CYRANO DE BERGERAC (1923) SUNDAY November 1, 2015 – 7:30pm SUNDAY January 24, 2016 – 2pm SATURDAY April 16, 2016 – 8pm Loveable teller Buster Keaton (who is trying to clear his name after a botched bank robbery) stumbles hilariously into a den of counterfeiters holed up at the local spooky “haunted” house. This short film will be followed by the first of the great Universal Studios horror features, The Cat and the Canary. Spending the night in dear departed Uncle Cyrus’ haunted mansion before the reading of the will would be harrowing enough, but now young Annabelle suspects one of her relatives is trying to kill her for a bigger share. Add an escaped homicidal maniac (“The Cat”) to the mix, and you have a thrilling, darkly funny German Expressionist masterpiece with an American twist. An early filmed edition of Edmond Rostand’s classic tale of sword-fighting and unexpressed love. This version of the familiar French story (the nasally over-endowed poet, soldier and duelist Cyrano de Bergerac, his beloved Roxanne, her would-be lover Christian) features frame-by-frame Pathéchrome (Pathé Stencil Color), a true labor-intensive rarity of the Silent Era and a treat for the eye! A beautiful, married countess becomes involved with two young German soldiers (and blood brothers), leading to romantic and tragic consequences. Greta Garbo was one of MGM’s most shining stars of the late Silent Era, and this romantic melodrama both lifted her to superstardom and initiated her torrid off-screen romance with co-star John Gilbert. A true dramatic classic of the Silent Era, selected for preservation by the Library of Congress in 2006. See all three regular screenings in the series for $45 or $60. Add on E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial LIVE for $25 - $85.
