Central To Our Future, the University of Central Florida’s
first comprehensive campaign, has been a

The Central To Our Future campaign has resulted
in dramatic improvements to campus facilities as well as
exceptional opportunities for the growing number of UCF students.
Publicly announced in 2005, the campaign will have raised over
$250 million by its conclusion on June 30, 2006.

After Joe Sefcik ’82 earned a master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology – the study of human
behavior in work settings – at UCF, he started a business that changed the face of employment testing. Today,
Employment Technologies Corporation is the leader in simulation technology that helps companies evaluate the
abilities of current and potential employees. In appreciation, Sefcik wanted to give back to the university that set
him on the path to success, so he donated $25,000 to the psychology building that is now under construction.
“We were delighted to receive this gift from a graduate who clearly values his industrial organizational training,”
said psychology professor Dick Tucker. “He is the first alumnus to provide such significant stewardship to this
department, and he also employs several of our graduates.”
In spring 2005, the Department of Psychology was named the best graduate program in the United States by the
National Association of Graduate Students. With more than 2,500 students, psychology is the largest department

Cancer. Just seeing that word evokes many emotions for many people. Beat Kahli and his wife, Jill, are two of those
people. Jill’s mother died of colon cancer when she was only in her mid-50s. In addition, several of the Kahlis’ friends
and family members, as well as some of Beat’s employees, have been diagnosed with the disease. So the Kahlis decided
to do something to help minimize the suffering for cancer patients. To this end, the couple donated $600,000 to UCF to
create the Beat M. and Jill L. Kahli Endowed Chair in Oncology Nursing, currently held by professor Karen Dow. Their
gift was eligible for a state match that resulted in an endowed fund of more than $1 million. The position supports the
College of Health and Public Affairs’ research program in nursing care for cancer patients. “We don’t publicize certain
things that we do, but here in the United States, when you do publicize what you do, it motivates others to help as well,”

past and present through an extensive collection of Gould books donated by Jean and Norman Gould and their sons,
