Sister Frances Jerome Woods Endowed Social Work Scholarship A scholarship of $1,887 will be awarded from the Sister Frances Jerome Woods Endowed Social Work Scholarship Fund for the Fall 2007. Sister Woods was a highly respected social work and sociology faculty member at our Lady of the Lake University. She passed away in 2000. The endowed scholarship was established by former students to honor her dedication to her students and to the profession of social work. To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria: Be an undergraduate or graduate student in the Worden School of Social Service. Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 in undergraduate or graduate courses. Have demonstrated financial need by qualifying for financial assistance from Our Lady of the Lake University. Students who meet the above criteria and are interested in applying for the scholarship should submit a 4-5 page double-spaced paper describing the findings from empirical research on the characteristics of Hispanic children and families that it is important for social workers to know in order to practice with cultural competence. American Psychological Association (APA) style must be used in the paper and in all citations of articles.
