V O LUM E 8 7 , N O .2 6 P a ge 2 The Advent Philomels with Mr. Bart Poce Brondo The Advent Philomels, one of MVC’s long-standing choral groups, rendered a series of sacred concerts in Adventist churches on three successive Sabbaths. The series will culminate at the MVC Alumni Church on August 8, 2015 during the Adventist Youth Program. With the theme “All That Thrills My Soul”, the AP’s repertoire includes classical, contemporary, negro spirituals, and old gospel songs. The churches visited in the last two Sabbaths were Kilangi SDA Church (a hiking distance from MVC) on July 25, Iligan City Central Church on July 31 (at Vespers), and on August 1 at Adventist Medical Center College Campus Church (Sabbath School), Rosario Heights Church (Hour of Worship), and Mindanao Mission Academy (AY Program). The program in MMA was a concert for a cause with the participation of the different musical groups of the academy. MMA students, parents and brethren in neighboring churches were present, so it was also an opportunity for the AP’s to promote Mountain View College. The Advent Philomels is currently directed by Maestro Bart Poce F. Brondo, one of MVC’s faculty who teaches music & arts, as well as piano and voice. He earned a master’s degree in choral conducting from St. Paul University in Manila. Mr. Brondo (Kuya Bart as fondly called by members) is so far the longest-serving director of the AP’s, having led the group for about twelve years now. The Advent Philomels (a philomel is a singing bird) was established in 1978 as a witnessing chorale. Over the years, it has rendered music ministry in several places and in various occasions here and abroad. Presently the group has 52 members, and is generously supported by some faculty sponsors. The group will have its Dedication Ceremony at the Oliverio Foundation Hall after its sacred concert come Sabbath at 5:00 p.m. Anyone interested is invited to attend the program. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Editor’s Note True Confession Time….Your considerable time consists mostly of…? Dr. Edgar Lloren emphasized one of my Bible classes before the types of prayer: Praise, intercession, Thanksgiving and telling God exactly what He should do. Which one is your specialty? When something weighs heavy on our heart, of course we want to pour it out to God and even ―suggest‖ how He should handle it. After all, prayer is communication with God –Divine communication, and by definition communication is a two-way conversation. But, how often does our proper time include quiet listening? After we have given God our suggestions on how to handle a situation, how often do we take time to be still and see if He has to say to us? Giving God that quiet times will undoubtedly endeavor our relationship with God as we give Him a chance to speak to us. Only by listening can we hear. “The problem with some people who pray is that they say? “AMEN” and elude before God has a chance to respond.” -Catherine Velasquez-
