FPI-DOTC Conference on Road Safety In line the global observance of the United Nations’ Decade of Action for Road Safety: 2011-2020, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), in collaboration with the Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI), the Supply Chain Management Association of the Philippines (SCMAP) and the Confederation of Truckers Association of the Philippines (CTAP), will hold a one-day Truckers Forum on Road Safety on 14 May 2014 at the AFP Commissioned Officers’ Club, Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, from 8am to 5pm with the theme Road Safety: The All Important Factor in the Transport of Cargo. This Forum aims to increase safety awareness among truck owners and hauling companies. Specifically, it aims to work with cargo owners to make road safety an important element in looking for truckers to transport their commodities and to encourage these owners to include road safety as a specific provision in their cargo contracts. For the haulers, the Forum features lead models and best practices that can be adapted to improve safety on the road. To this effect, speakers from selected industries have been invited to share their outstanding road safety practices. It has been noted that truck accidents increased by 47% last year, hence, there is a need to do the best to decrease the same. The forum will show best practices and contract templates that can be adopted so that the truckers we use will follow road safety guidelines. The proposed speakers are Lafarge, Shell, San Miguel, and selected FPI member companies. Each FPI member company can have one free participant from the company itself and three free participants coming from that company’s truckers.
