Investigation of Basement Flooding Lawrie Road Service Area (Ajax) Class Environmental Assessment NOTICE OF STUDY COMPLETION WORKS DEPARTMENT PUBLIC NOTICE February 16, 2010 The Regional Municipality of Durham has completed a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) Study to determine the preferred approach to alleviate recurring basement flooding in the study area during heavy rainfall events. The Lawrie Road sanitary service area is roughly 80 hectares in size on either side of Lawrie Road, south of Westney Road to Lake Ontario, including the Lakeshore Sanitary Pumping Station (SPS). The preferred solution includes: Routine inspection of sanitary sewer maintenance hole cover seals. Continuing to encourage residents to install backwater valves, sump pumps and disconnect downspouts. A new “express” sanitary sewer (no local connections) to be constructed in parallel to the existing Lawrie Road sanitary sewer from Clover Ridge Drive to Lake Driveway outside of the Lakeshore SPS. The sanitary sewer from Lake Driveway into the pumping station is to be replaced by a larger sanitary sewer. The construction of two flow diversion structures. The first is to be located at Clover Ridge and Lawrie Road to divert excess flow to the new “express” sewer. The second is located on Lake Driveway outside the Lakeshore SPS to divert excess flow to an underground off-line storage facility. Construction of an underground off-line storage facility located outside of the Lakeshore SPS.
