University of Bergen, Norway Department of Sosiology The University of Bergen (UiB) is situated in the centre of the city of Bergen in western cost of Norway. The university has about 14.300 students and about 3.300 faculty and staff members. The UiB is known for its high European research standard and houses a number of centres of excellence. Associate Professor in Sociology At the Department of Sociology, University of Bergen, there is a vacant position as Associate Professor in sociology. Applicants must have a PhD in sociology or equivalent experience. It is desirable that applicants have proven their ability to publish sociological research results at a high international level beyond their PhD dissertation. It is also expected that the applicants have made good progress in their research and publishing, and that they have made plans for further research and publishing. The applicants must be willing and able to teach compulsory courses in sociology at both the undergraduate and the graduate level. It is desirable that the person who get the position has research skills in the use of quantitative analysis, and can go into the teaching of such methods at all levels in sociology. Candidates who can document such expertise will therefore take precedence over applicants who cannot document such competence. The teaching language will normally be Norwegian. The successful applicant must be able to teach in Norwegian or one of the other Scandinavian language within two years of his/her appointment.
