SHOW CONTROL
Be memorable. Special effects are no longer just for the stage.
Everyday life has become the staging ground for entertainment-technology
experiences. It is not enough to engineer a space or structure to be functional.
The art and wonder of interactive lighting, automation, audio and visual spectacle,
kinetic-art displays, water effects, and more are captivating people’s attention –
differentiating a venue, creating a landmark, making a truly memorable event.
But how? Mosaic – the control solution that allows you to merge show control, LEDs, moving
lights, media effects, and more into one visionary work – seamlessly closing the distance between
architectural and entertainment technology.
ETC’s Unison Mosaic Show Control system frees you to focus on creativity. Easy to learn and use,
Mosaic Software provides the canvas for your artistic design, from conception through
programming and ongoing management. And Mosaic Show Controllers are Unison’s ultracompact hardware solution, running your shows reliably, day in and day out, with peace-of-mind
precision. These controllers’ range of inputs and outputs also include industry-standard network
protocols to facilitate system integration as needed.
™
™
For unique environments or installations – retail displays, museum exhibits, casino décor, public
art, themed design, artful exteriors, seasonal and special events – Mosaic control is the solution.
™
UNISON MOSAIC
S O F T WA R E
With Mosaic, you don’t need a lighting control console. You already have one – inside Mosaic’s software.
You directly create a real show in real time using your Mac or PC. Even after uploading the show, you have all
the features you’d need to influence and modify your design to be interactive with the outside world.
Previously, your only option was to program your show on a lighting console and capture it on a playback
device. That is a limited way to control lighting and other effects – it can only reproduce its output as
programmed, with no opportunity for interaction.
Unison Mosaic Software provides the framework for creating your unique installation – freeing you to focus
on creativity not technology. You have everything you need: from importing project plans for system layout, to
positioning lighting fixtures and other devices in the plan, to editing triggers and timelines, picking specific
colors, programming special effects, mapping pixels to an array, playing back video clips, visualizing the results,
and uploading your show. And, maintaining and refreshing your installation – even multi-location projects –
is easy with Mosaic’s user-oriented management software.

MOSAIC DESIGNER
S O F T WA R E
™
Unison Mosaic Designer Software melds the capabilities of a lighting control console, the
flexibility of a media server, and the precision of a PLC to achieve your artistic visions – on
time and on budget. Mosaic software guides you through projects, with tools at each step:
DesignView allows you to import images to form the basis of your lighting design
so that fixtures and other elements reflect your project team’s architectural plans.
FixtureManager’s deep library of multi-attribute fixtures gives you drag-and-drop
access to your LEDs, moving lights, and other devices – including those from
different manufacturers. Create an infinite mosaic of show looks with Designer’s
TimeSlice. Program each element of your design using visual, timeline-based blocks.
Use ColorPick, Designer’s powerful color selector to change intensity and hue, which
are then displayed on the timeline itself.
Designer’s PixelMap goes way beyond traditional lighting effects, allowing you to
define a group of fixtures as a virtual screen and then play back static or video images
on it. TriggerManager links your presentation to the outside world by allowing
specific TimeSlices to be linked to either external inputs or real-time events
(including ‘sunrise’ and ‘sunset’). ControlView transforms your design elements
into a simulation environment for viewing your project before installation. With
LiveControl, if Mosaic Controllers are connected during simulation, you can output
the show directly to the fixtures themselves.
If you are using the Mosaic Tessera (MTPC), TouchEditor is the software tool that
lets you design custom user interfaces. The intuitive user interface makes it easy to
organize multiple pages of controls, configure their behavior and customize their
appearance. TouchEditor comes with editable templates of page controls – buttons,
sliders and color pickers. Several themes that govern the appearance of page controls
are included with TouchEditor, and the built-in ThemeEditor allows users to create
their own.

MOSAIC MANAGEMENT
SOFTWARE
Mosaic MediaManager is part of a suite of utility applications that works with Mosaic
Designer software and Show Controllers. MediaManager provides a simple interface so
users can easily change pixel-matrix content. This application allows the programmer to
focus on configuring a system and lets the facility determine what content is used, based
on a changing schedule of events. MediaManager accommodates user-defined content,
as well as any of the effects offered within Mosaic Designer software. A built-in tool allows
for simple but reliable simulation of media effects prior to loading them into the Mosaic
controller. And the new media content can be updated at any time, including scheduled
uploads, using the Mosaic RemoteManager software. RemoteManager allows a user to
manage multiple installations remotely, via the Internet, making quick changes to media
content. A single technician can schedule a system to automatically upload configurations
to multiple locations (for instance, to a chain of retail stores) and set a time for the new
show to play, while monitoring and receiving system status.

UNISON MOSAIC
SHOW CONTROLLER X
Extreme show control. The Unison Mosaic control system offers a network fabric rich in
strength and flexibility for most applications – lighting and LED arrays, kinetic-art displays,
media and facility-wide special effects – enough power for almost any venue or event.
But there are exceptions – installations where yet more control is needed. In those cases,
the Mosaic Show Controller X (MSC X) range is the exact choice.
The “X” in MSC X stands for the exceptional project that demands much more
control – unprecedented power and integration. These very large projects pose a
number of challenges: from the sheer volume of control required and the need for it to
be synchronized across all fixtures and devices, to the variety of different technologies
that need to work together, to high-level media-content integration. Designed to meet
the unique needs of such landmark projects, the MSC X is available in capacities ranging
from 10,240 channels of DMX-over-Ethernet (20 universes) up to more than 100,000
channels (200 DMX universes, or, 34,000 RGB LEDs!) from a single 19” equipment-rackmounted unit.
Expansive control. Like the MSCs and the MTPC, the MSC X has an extensive range of
external triggering interfaces, including Ethernet, RS232 Serial, and DMX input. A
built-in real-time clock triggers precise timed events, including ‘sunrise’ and ‘sunset’
astronomical cues. Additional triggering interfaces are supported by networking with
MSC 1, 2 or 4 and/or Mosaic Remote Input and Output Modules (RIOs). As a DMX-overEthernet device, the MSCX also empowers you to send the data to your network using
Ethernet protocols — ESTA streaming ACN (sACN), Philips KiNet , ArtNet , or Pathway
XDMX , simultaneously. But unlike any other Mosaic device, the MSCX includes
VideoConnect — digital video outputs using Firewire and DVI connections to master
pixel mapping on video-based fixtures, as well as a Firewire digital-video input for livevideo mapping in real time.
