In addition, homework and mini-case assignments will supplement. Calculator: A calculator is essential to the course. Some of the text gives financial calculator keystrokes as instruction. For business majors, especially finance majors, I recommend the best calculator you can afford. Hewlett-Packard makes several series of calculators for finance, the 10 and 12 series, the 17, and finally the 19 series. The scale is from least expensive to most expensive. I can also recommend the Texas Instruments BA35-Plus as well. Check the student boards and online discount centers for used options. The HP 17 is the most user friendly of all the options. Aplia: We will use Aplia as a primary communication tool. I will post test grades to Blackboard, but that is all. The Aplia site records your homework grades. Grades: There will be 4 exams worth 100 points each. 100 pts are devoted to non-exam assessments. We will be using the +/- grading system, so 2.5/5/2.5 is the breakdown. Homework is critical to this class. It is the key to performing well on the exams, and makes up a significant portion of your final grade. I will drop your lowest score. The homework schedule and due dates are on Aplia.
