Now that you’ve used the system map to determine which
route(s) you need, you’ll need a timetable to plan your trip. Each
timetable has a route number and name on the front. It will list
the departure times from major intersections and landmarks.
Find the timepoint closest to when you need to arrive at your
destination, and then move your finger along the line to your
boarding point. This will determine your departure time.

• Race a train or run in front of a train. You’ll always lose.
• Try to beat the train to the crossing.
• Drive around lowered crossing gate arms.
• Walk near or stand on the tracks, climb poles or throw an
object at the light rail vehicle.
• Touch overhead wires, which carry electricity to the light rail
vehicles. Stay away from them at all times.

• Self servicing Ticket Vending Machines (TVM) are located near
entrances or on LYNX station platforms. TVMs only sell oneway tickets, roundtrip tickets, one-day passes and 7-day passes .
• Instructions on the main screen will guide you through your
purchase.
• To begin, select your ticket type. Next, select your rider
category and the number of tickets needed.
• Now press the “buy” key and select your method of payment.
• The TVM will accept bills up to $20 and coins, except for
pennies.
• To use your credit card, swipe your card in the debit/credit card slot
located in the upper right hand corner. LYNX TVMs accept Mastercard
and VISA.
• Once your payment has been confirmed, your ticket(s) will be printed.
Lastly, remove your ticket(s). Don’t forget your change and if you are
using a credit card, take your receipt .

Transfers
Be sure to request your transfer when you board our bus service.
Transfers are issued at the time of payment and are free unless
you are transferring to a higher priced service, in which case a
small charge is required. Transfers are valid for up to 90 minutes
and are good only on the next connecting bus or LYNX service.
Transfers cannot be issued aboard the LYNX Blue Line.
Customers with a LYNX ticket may use their ticket to ride CATS
bus service as long as the date and time printed on the back
have not expired.

buddies. CATS Vanpool Program offers two sizes of vehicles, 15
passenger and 7 passenger. Both programs are a convenient and
affordable way to get to work. A vanpool or minivan consists of a
group of people who live and work near each other and share
similar commuting schedules. Each service tailors its schedule
around the group’s needs, with all members deciding on the
pick-up and drop-off locations and times. To find a vanpool near

ETC program
The Employee Transportation Coordinator (ETC) program is
designed to help promote transit in the workplace. Every month,
ETC’s receive passes on consignment from CATS and businesses
provide them to their employees. Businesses and organizations
may provide the passes at no charge or at a reduced rate. To

etcinterest@ci.charlotte.nc.us.information.

Las tarjetas de identificación de transporte permiten que las

reducida. El Centro de Transporte de Charlotte, localizado en
310 E. Trade St., realiza las tarjetas de identificación de

• Be at your stop or station five minutes early.
• Have your fare, ticket or pass ready.
• Look for the CATS and LYNX signs that mark all of our bus
stops, park and rides and light rail stations.
• Watch for your bus or train.
• Once you board, sit back, relax and wait for your destination.
For the comfort of all passengers, we ask that you comply
with these rules:
• No smoking, eating or drinking.
• No loud music, keep your personal stereo to yourself.
• Keep your head, hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times.
• Please respect priority seating areas for senior citizens and
disabled passengers.
• No animals or pets allowed, except seeing-eye and
hearing dogs.
• No weapons, alcohol, or illegal substances are permitted on
CATS and LYNX vehicles.

Holiday Schedule
On New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day,Independence Day,
Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, CATS and LYNX will
operate on a Sunday schedule.
On Martin Luther King’s Birthday and the day after Thanksgiving
Day, CATS and LYNX will operate on a Saturday schedule.

The LYNX Blue Line operates as a proof-of-payment fare collection
system. You must possess a ticket or pass with a valid date and time in
order to ride. Cash is not accepted onboard LYNX Blue Line trains. A

10 ride passes, STS yellow tickets and ADA red tickets are not valid on
