I’m glad, because today we’ll be talking about socks. You can be seated. Most of us never think much about them unless they are dirty or have holes in them, or if we can’t find a matching pair. Socks can be used to remind us that we need to give instead of always receiving. (Fold the pair of socks and hold them out as if you were giving them away.) Give my socks? Who in the world would want them? Well, there are people who don’t have clothes and might really need them. Let’s look at the Bible and see what it has to say about giving clothes to people. (Read Matthew 25:36,37.) Wow! It says if we give clothes to someone who needs them, it’s just like giving them to Jesus. Along with giving the socks, we can also give food and other items they might need. Did you know that some of your BGMC offerings are used to provide clothes and shoes for kids and adults around the world? (Put the sock on your hand.) This looks like it could be used for dusting. (Pretend to dust the items around you.) This is kind of fun. I think my mother would be happy if I helped her. How about you? Can you think of someone you could help? How about your mom, dad, neighbors, grandparents, or a busy working mother? Acts 20:35 tells us that we should be lending a hand to those who need help. You can also help our missionaries by doing chores and giving the money to BGMC. Have you ever made a puppet from a sock? It’s easy to do; just put the sock on your hand the same way I did for the duster. If you have any stickers, you can use them for eyes. (Put the sock on your hand and put the stickers on it for eyes.) You need to tuck the toe end between your thumb and fingers for a mouth. How can you use this puppet? You could play with your little brother or sister when Mom is busy. You could also use it to tell others about Jesus. This puppet sock reminds us that we need to use our time and our talents for Jesus. Do you think a sock could be used for a bank? My grandpa did. He used to put his change in an old sock. He said he was “socking” his money away for later! The old sock would start to bulge and get heavy as he “socked” his money. When it was full, it was time to spend it. Guess how he spent it? Grandpa would get a smile on his face and take it to church and give it to missions. It sort of sounds like a Buddy Barrel, doesn’t it? Grandpa was a cheerful giver. His sock reminded him to give to missions. Everyone, look down at your socks or your neighbor’s socks. We talked about giving. Can you think of one thing you can give to Jesus? Good! Let’s pray and ask Jesus to help us be faithful and remember to give to others. Also remember to do what you can to fill your Buddy Barrels for BGMC. BGMC supplies our missionaries with whatever they need to tell others about Jesus and to help them. Every penny you give goes to help someone here in America and all around the world. Let’s all do what we can to raise money for BGMC! 220 2013 BGMC Missions Manual, Vol. 15 © 2013 by Gospel Publishing House, 1445 N. Boonville Ave., Springfield, MO 65802. All rights reserved.
