NYU Wrestling Information Brochure New York State Arthur O. Eve HEOP Corey Luce Senior Assistant Wrestling Coach Tel. 212-998-2048 NYU Wrestling Jerome S Coles Sports and Recreation 181 Mercer Street New York, NY 10012-5499 Dear High School Wrestler, I hope that your season is going well and wish you success in the upcoming months. New York University is, as you already know, a world-renowned academic institution located in the heart of New York City’s Greenwich Village. The University is comprised of 8 different colleges that offer a wide variety of academic degrees and concentrations. NYU has always kept a rich, elite academic tradition in all areas of study, and as a result, the University maintains high-end admissions standards, prospective students are expected to demonstrate a minimum GPA of 3.6 (non-weighted) and a minimum combined SAT score of 1920 (which includes all 3 sections of the SAT test). The NYU wrestling program is always in search of wrestlers who are both willing and able to train to become NCAA Division III All-American and National Champions. However, our recruiting efforts hold firm to the university’s aforementioned academic standards. In our program, we realize that not every student/family can both meet our academic standard and/or afford our tuition costs. This is why I am addressing and introducing you to the Higher Education Opportunities Program (HEOP) offered at NYU. The HEOP is an excellent opportunity for financially disadvantaged students who reside in the state of New York. The HEOP rewards these students with an outstanding financial aid package, comprised mainly of scholarships that nearly eliminate all tuition costs. Eligibility requirements for the HEOP are as follows: New York state residency, a high school diploma with a GPA of about 3.0-3.3, as well as a minimum combined SAT score of 1725. This of course includes the new section of the SAT. In addition, 2 SAT II subject tests must be taken. Even though these are the approximate requirements for the HEOP, not all applicants meeting these standards are guaranteed assistance and I am not in any position to say who will and will not qualify. The HEOP creates a window of access to the elite, higher education offered by NYU for families with minimal resources. As Senior Assistant Wrestling Coach, I am looking for student-athletes who love to wrestle, plan to wrestle for four years in college and as per this letter, would be eligible for HEOP. If you believe that you may be eligible for the HEOP, please take advantage of this opportunity. I encourage you to complete the NYU online-application that you can find at www.nyu.edu. The application is in our admissions section of the web site. In addition to the application, please include a brief letter requesting consideration for HEOP, and any pertinent explanations as to why your situation suits the program. Please be aware that our application deadline every year is January 1. If you have interest and you feel that you fit the profile, we hope to hear from you by the spring. Learn more about the HEOP on the next pages. In addition, I hope that you will take some time to review our website and fill out our questionnaire at http://www.gonyuathletics.com/sb_output.aspx?form=7. Those with a pre-medical major are introduced to college chemistry and calculus. Preparation is not confined to the classroom or campus. You will visit the city’s museums and galleries.
