There is great cultural diversity at Niles North High School. 38.6% of the student body qualifies for the Free or Reduced Lunch program. In the district’s Fall Housing Report, over 60% of the student body reports that they speak another language. Over 90 different languages are spoken with Urdu, Spanish, and Assyrian the most common. Fifty-seven percent of the population is non-white. ethnicity White: 43.6% Black: 10.4% Hispanic: 12.1% Asian: 32.5% Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander: 0.5% American Indian: 0.2% Two or more races: 0.7% SCHOOL CALENDAR The school year consists of 185 school days: four nine-week quarters. The school day is divided into nine, 42 minute periods. Laboratory classes meet twice a week for an additional 42 minutes. Each student is also assigned to a 10-minute homeroom class that meets every day. The school day starts at 8:10 a.m. and concludes at 3:23 p.m. The first semester ends on January 16, 2014 and the second semester ends on June 5, 2014. community Niles North High School is located approximately 5 miles north of Chicago in Cook County. The school, along with Niles West High School, comprises Niles Township High School District 219, which serves the communities of Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Skokie and Niles. The community strongly supports the school system which has an annual expenditure per pupil of $22,915. faculty There are 180 full-time teachers, of which 80% hold a master’s degree or beyond. The average number of teaching years is 13. The ratio of students to teachers is 16:1. pupil personnel services Students receive guidance services through nine counselors and one college/ career counselor. The counselors assist students with personal, social, and academic concerns, college selections, and career/vocational plans. In addition, there is one student assistance counselor, three social workers, and four school psychologists. graduation requirements for the class of 2014 To graduate, a student must earn thirty-six academic credits*, plus 1 credit of PE for each semester enrolled at Niles North High School. Ninety-nine percent of graduates earn more than 44 total credits. Both weighted and unweighted grade point averages are calculated as explained below. NNHS offers an extensive extra-curricular program that helps students expand their academic and social skills, meet new friends, and engage in positive experiences. There are 23 different sports and 75 clubs and activities to choose from.
