Cribs
Community Cubbies
Babies need safe cribs.
Caregivers need their backs. The
cribs are not dropsides. The
BackSafe cribs and BackSafe
Evacuation cribs are certified for
child safety and comply with
new federal CPSC Rule CFR
1220 for crib safety.
All children need their own
personalized storage space
sized specifically for them and
their belongings. Cubbies are
provided for each age group in
each classroom. The cubbies help
children establish routines and
eases transition to school.
Quality Furniture
Changing Station
Montesorri Chairs
Wooden Furniture
Toddlers need a changing station
that promotes independence.
The changing station contains
fold-down, self-retracting steps
that toddlers can climb. It also
has a hidden childproof
hamper.
Infants and toddlers need chairs
and tables sized and shaped
specifically for them. The infants
and toddlers can get in and out
of, carry and push the Me-Do-It
Chairs.
All equipment in the Child
Center is made in the USA.
The equipment is made of soft
maple wood that is covered with
a water-based lacquer, which is
non-toxic to humans.
The Need for
Children need child-size
equipment. The furniture is
lightweight and mobile. The
furniture is also adjustable
according to the size/height of
the children. The furniture is
child-friendly and allows
them to easily see, find and
access toys and materials in
each activity area.
What makes for a Safe Environment?
• Developmentally appropriate
equipment
• Non-slip floors
• Stable shelves, objects and fixtures
with rounded corners
• Steps toddlers can use to reach the
changing station (no bending/lifting)
Montesorri Multi-Tables
Children need movable, heightadjustable tables. The multitables are strong and light, with
adjustable legs that click to new
heights in a few seconds, without
the use of any tools. The multitables allow for flexibility in the
classroom.
Montesorri Shelving
Each child needs an area for
work and play. Each room is
filled with shelving and storage
islands that are sized and shaped
specifically for each age group.
The shelving and storage islands
are used to divide each room into
activity areas and contain books,
toys and materials for each
activity area.

The Need to Feel
Welcome
Parent Communication Area
Parents need a welcome area
that allows them to connect to
their child’s classroom. Each
room has a Parent
Communication area where
teachers can welcome visitors,
parents can sign-in/sign-out their
child, and parents and teachers
can exchange information.
Gliders
Caregivers can create a
welcoming and nurturing
environment for the children
with the blue community gliders.
The gliders can be used for oneon-one time (rock and cuddle
children in comfort), curriculum
theme-based activities and
general supervision of children.
Each classroom environment is
designed in a manner in which
children can reach, sit, play and
work without constantly asking
for an adult for access.
The Need to Feel Secure
Security Features
Ever wonder who has access to
your child while you are busy at
work? Fear no more. The Child
Center, the Outdoor Play Area
and the Community Center are
equipped with a safe and reliable
key fobs control security
system. Every scanned card is
recorded. The Child Center is
also equipped with an indoor
video surveillance system for
24-hour monitoring of caregivers
and children. Only currently
registered parents/guardians of
children and currently employed
caregivers/teachers will have
access to the children at any
given time.
The Need for Imagination
Woodcrest Tables and
Chairs
Children need to feel at home.
Both toddlers and preschoolers
have a dramatic play area that
contains furniture-for-play that
has age-appropriate chair
seat/table leg heights. The
woodcrest tables and chairs are
shaped to support the children’s
best posture, allowing the
children to feel relaxed and
focused.
Drama Center
Children need a place for roleplay. The Drama Center for all
children (except infants) contains
a classic oval shape mirror, a
stage area, hooks and totes for
costumes and creative props, and
30 age-appropriate dress-up
costumes and accessories.
Woodcrest Kitchen
Play-size Equipment
Children need a place that invites
play. Infants, toddlers and
preschoolers each have their own
kitchen that is child-level and
equipped with knobs that turn,
doors that open and raised
burners for imaginative play.
The kitchen includes a stove,
sink, refrigerator, and cupboard
and box car. The preschool area
also contains a clothes washer.
Children need a place that
supports dramatic and social
play. Preschoolers can “play for
real” with a rocking cradle, an
ironing board (with iron) that has
a sturdy base with slanted legs to
provide stability, a pushcart that
is tip-resistant, a bed for dolls,
and a doll high chair that children
can easily lift and carry, using
the side handle-holds.
Dramatic play helps infants, toddlers
and preschoolers learn about the
people and roles around them. It gives
them the opportunity to re-enact the
events in their daily lives and stretches
children’s imagination.
Food Market
Children need space for
cooperative group play. The
market area contains a canopy
with fixed shelves, four shopping
carts, healthy play food sets, two
supermarket checkout counters
and sturdy play money.
Toddler Store
Toddlers need a place to share.
The toddlers have a village store
that contains a toddler shelf and
toddler canopy. The toddler shelf
puts food and accessories within
easy reach for toddlers.
Quality, Quality, Quality
All wooden furniture is made
of soft maple wood that
contains a clear, non-toxic
finish, which is safe for
children.
The Need for Movement
Nursery Gym
Infants and toddlers need to
move to build large motor skills
and muscles. Infants and
toddlers each have a nursery
gym that contains stairs, slides
and ramps to support gross
motor play. The infants and
toddlers can walk, climb, slide,
crawl, jump and play in the
nursery gym.
Community Loft
Children need a safe place for
individual or group play. The
community loft contains short,
safe stairs for children to climb,
carpeted platforms and panels
for creative play, and head-room
underneath for stand-up play.
Children have opportunities to
learn and grow when they
engage in movement.
Blocks and Riding Toys
Children need to engage in
active physical play. Unit,
mini-unit, mini-hollow and
hollow blocks, wooden trucks, a
rocking boat, two wheelbarrows,
airplanes and helicopters,
tricycles and scooters are
available for use in Center daily.
Gymnasium
Children need ample space to
run, jump and play. The
gymnasium measures 63’ 2 1/4”
x 52’ 0” and has non-slip floors.
The ceiling lights are protected
by plastic tubing, which
provides safety in the event that a
fluorescent bulb becomes broken.
The fixtures in the room are
protected by stainless steel cages.
The columns and walls in the
room are protected by gym wall
padding. The padding provides
heavy-duty protection for indoor
impact areas. All children will
have access to the gym daily.

The Need for Literacy
Listening Cube
Rocking Chair
Child’s Sofa and Armchair
Children need a safe place to
relax and listen to music and
storybooks. A Listening Cube
allows the children to use
developmentally appropriate
headphones to listen to age
appropriate music or
storybooks.
Children need a child-size rocker
for story time and for dramatic
play. The old-fashioned rocking
chair for preschoolers has a
contoured seat and back and is
almost impossible to tip over.
What is the difference between a
Library Shelf, a Library Rack
and a Browser Box?
The school-age children need a
protected area for reading. The
school-age children have a
literacy corner where they can
curl up on a child-size sofa or
child-size armchair and read a
good age-appropriate paperback
book from their mini-library.
The mini-library contains
reference books, fiction and fact,
and leveled readers, books for
readers from Kindergarten to
Grade 6.
Children need a relaxing place
to go with a good book. The
child-size sofa and child-size
armchair have a sturdy
hardwood frame that is strong
enough to hold a teacher. They
also contain soft and durable
foam cushions covered by tough,
microbial, waterproof and
stain resistant fabric.
Books
Children need safe access to
books. Each room has a library
shelf, library rack or browser box
where all books are age
appropriate, face outward and
are at the children’s eye level.
Books for infants and toddlers
include board books only. Books
for preschoolers include both
picture and reading board books
and paperback books. The
preschoolers also have a
Vocabulary Development Center.
A library shelf or a library rack is
movable and offers 12 linear feet
of book display space on four
levels. Big books are visible from
both sides of the rack, and there is
book storage space available on
the shelves below and behind the
racks.
A browser box designed
specifically for infants and
toddlers is a low, versatile storage
bin with high visibility. The infants
can practice their walking skills as
they search for their favorite book.
Literacy Corner
Books were purchased from
two educational publishing
companies, Teacher Created
Resources and Usborne Books.
The Need for Large
Muscle Play
With a Modular Block,
the length of the block is
2x the width of the block,
which is exactly 2x the
thickness.
Modular Blocks
Children need space for openended play. Block play
encourages both physical and
cognitive development. Blocks
are the cornerstone of
developmentally appropriate
play.
Mini Unit Blocks
Mini unit blocks, which are
modular blocks, are small but
safe and are designed for a
toddler’s small hands and ideal
for school-age tabletop play.
Modular Block Sets
Trucks & Aircraft
Sets of Mini hollow blocks, Unit
blocks and Hollow blocks are
available for all children (except
infants). Mini hollow blocks link
Unit blocks and Hollow blocks.
By combining all three sets of
blocks, the children can enhance
the variety and fun of block
play.
Children need vehicles for
imaginative play. Vehicles
include small tank truck, small
dump truck, small semi, small
flatbed, small fire truck, two
helicopters, two airplanes, semi,
two buses, flatbed and fire
engine. All vehicles are made of
durable hardwood, with gently
rounded edges, a child-safe
finish, and non-marking wheels
and axles that won’t come off.
Block Carts
The block carts for the storage
and transportation of all
modular blocks are sturdy and
easy to maneuver with 4”
lockable swivel castors and
convenient handlebars.
The Strengths of Modular Blocks:
• All edges are rounded for safety
• All joints in the hollow blocks are
securely fastened with recessed
screws
• All blocks are made of solid maple
wood
• Open ends allow little hands to
pick the blocks up easily
Starter Riser Kit
Young children need to a place to
create playscapes. The starter
riser kit includes a riser
rectangle, a riser square and two
riser ramps. The carpeted risers
can be used as a pathway or
launching pad for trucks and
aircraft or can be flipped over
and used for children to climb.
The connectors for the risers are
toddler-proof yet teacherfriendly.
Two Wheelbarrows
Children love to move things
from place to place. Each
wheelbarrow is made of solid
hardwood. Each wheelbarrow
has two big 8” soft plastic tires
that give the wheelbarrow plenty
of stability and balance. The
child-size wheelbarrows have
enough cargo room for toys,
blocks or even a small child!
Children use their bodies to
learn. That’s why we have
invested in products that are
safe, durable and simple.
Rocking Boat
Children need a place to safely
rock together. The rocking boat
has thick, rounded sides which
provide a stable base and a quiet
ride for children. The long shape
of the rocking boat prevents
tipping. The rocking boat fits up
to four children.
The Need for Old Art
Blocks, trucks & aircraft,
wheelbarrows, rocking boat,
tricycles and scooters
encourage children to work
together and to have fun
together.
Puppet Theater
Children need a place for
imaginative play. The puppet
theater in the infant room and in
the toddler/preschool room has a
reversible shelf for puppet and
prop storage, a built-in stage
with curtains and a window seat.
The children can put on a grand
puppet show using a variety of
hand puppets and finger
puppets available for use at the
Child Center.
Two Tricycles and
Two Scooters
Children need the toughest bikes
on the block. The tricycles and
scooters have durable, baked-on
powder coating, which resists
chips and dings. They also have
sealed ball bearings that can
handle years of vigorous use
without maintenance. The
tricycles and scooters also have
cushioned handlebars to avoid
finger pinches! The toddlers and
preschoolers can use the tricycles
and scooters in the Child Center
or in the gymnasium of the
Community Center.
The Child Center encourages
varieties of play:
•

The Need for Investigation
Sand and Water Center
Children need a place that invites
science and discovery. The sand
and water center has pulleys,
hoses and funnels that
encourage children to
experiment with weights,
measures, volume and water
flow. It also has sliding play
shelves, flow pans and storage
racks. The sand and water center
is movable and height
adjustable. The infants have
their own Small Sand and
Water Center while the toddlers
and preschoolers have a
Universal Sand and Water
Center. The Sand and Water
Center is used indoors and is
wheelchair accessible.
Practice shapes,
uppercase/lowercase alphabet,
numbers & operations with
extra large sand molds in the
Sand and Water Center.

Mud Center
Children need a place to
experiment. The children will
have a Mud Center (two raised
plots with lots of good soil, play
materials and an endless supply
of water) located in the Outdoor
Area of Elcam. Playing with
mud is a sensory, messy,
creative activity. Children will
have the opportunity to play with
mud during the summer months.
The Need for Creativity
Art Center
Children need a place for
creativity. Children can “shop
around” for art and craft items
and make choices about media
and methods with the Help
Yourself Trolley in the Art
Center. The child-friendly,
highly portable, awardwinning Help Yourself Trolley
in the Art Center has eight green
cups that hold brushes, sponges,
Q-tips and other tools; slanted
paper slots to hold different sizes
of paper and also wider, deeper
slots for paper rolls and
cardboard; small totes for
embellishments; dowels for
ribbon, tape and twine; scissor
storage; and three shallow totes
and six deep totes for craft
materials. The sturdy casters on
the trolley ensure easy transport
to all rooms in the Child Center.
Art for Infants
Drying Rack
The infants need their own
creativity area. The infants will
have an eye-level floor easel,
designed especially for children
ages one to three years, to
participate in the creative arts.
The floor easel includes an easel
frame, two whiteboards and 10
magnets.
Art can help children develop
Children need a safe, effective
way to dry their art projects. The
drying rack has an open back

multiple creativity options with
the Multi-Purpose Easel in the
Art Center. The Multi-Purpose
Easel, designed especially for
ages two to adult, has two
magnetic whiteboards that are
cleanable and height adjustable
and removable trays that hold art
equipment and catch paint drips!
Children need to dress
accordingly when engaging in
the creative arts. Children will
wear tulip aprons for art. The
tulip aprons are made of soft
nylon and have hook & loop
fastener. The tulip aprons are
machine-washable and
waterproof. The tulip aprons
also have a sturdy loop hanger
so the children can hang up their
own aprons on the peg tree in
the Art Center.
The Need for Nourishment
Plates, Bowls and Flatware
Young children need
developmentally appropriate
cups, plates, bowls and flatware.
Each child will eat meals and
snacks using a divided dish with
five deep compartments, a sippy
cup or training cup based on
age and development, a sip-abowl that has a built-in straw and
a tot fork and spoon set. The set
makes it is easy for young
children to hold and scoop up
food and liquids. It also eases the
transition to grown-up flatware.
Teacher’s Low Chair
Teachers need comfortable
seating at child-level for optimal
care, play and learning with
children. The teacher’s low chair
allows the caregiver to interact
with children and provide
assistance to children during
mealtimes or any activity.
Suggested Preschooler Serving
The Need for Relaxation
Sizes:
Bread --- ½ Slice
Cereal --- 1/3 Cup
Pasta --- ¼ Cup Cooked
Cooked Veggies --- ¼ Cup
Applesauce --- ¼ Cup
Milk --- ½ Cup
Cheese --- ¾ Ounce
Meat --- 1 Ounce
A preschooler’s appetite can
fluctuate daily, depending on
activity level and growth spurts.
This serving sizes guide is just for
starters as the child will be our
guide.
Mealtimes
Mealtimes should be familystyle. The lightweight, adjustable
Multi-Tables accommodate
growing children. The Teacher’s
Low Chair allows the teacher to
sit comfortably with children at
mealtimes.
Community Cots
Children need their own space to
relax. Toddlers and Preschoolers
will have a 24” x 54” x 6” high
Community Cot, Fitted Sheet
and 36” x 59” Rest Time
Blanket for naptime. The
stackable cot has a sturdy,
lightweight aluminum frame
with durable corners, which are
rounded for safety and are easy
to clean. Air circulates freely
through the extra strong
polyester mesh covering the
body of the cot. The elastic,
poly/cotton knit fitted sheet
stretches over the corners of
the cot, so it stays in place when
a child tosses and turns. The cozy
fleece rest time blanket has knit
binding and is designed to fit the
Community Cot. The fitted sheet
and the rest time blanket are
machine washable.

control of their environment.
Each room in the Child
Center has well-defined
boundaries between activity
areas, which allows children
to develop their own routines
and discipline and supports
creative play.
Children need a quiet place to
play with their favorite toy, book
or game. A Hideaway Cube
allows the children to relax and
play in supervised seclusion. The
Hideaway Cube has a We-Do-It
Bench. Small children love the
feet-on-the-floor comfort of the
We-Do-It Bench. The bench can
accommodate two small
children.
The Need for Small Motor
Activities/ Table Play
Children need toys and games
that promote learning and help
them develop fine motor
control. Toddlers and
preschoolers will have access to
a variety of small motor activities
in the Table Play area of the
Toddler/Preschool Room.

panel, paper corner, tool corner,
two corner shelves, corner
basket, height-adjustable activity
table and two Woodcrest Chairs.
The Writing Nook allows the
children to focus on schoolrelated work.
The school-age children need a
place for table play, which can
