Prentice Hall Magruder’s American Government is organized around Understanding by
Design Essential Questions. Essential Questions help students of all abilities gain an understanding of key American government principles to help them effectively problem solve in this global economy. The content is relevant and accessible so students of all levels understand the key concepts. Each resource in the program helps students acquire the knowledge and skills they need to answer the Essential Question and move toward truly understanding the content.
The Foundations Series is an accessible curriculum that covers the same core content as the on-level version. Features include a lower reading level at a Lexile range between 800 and
900 and explicit skills instruction. The Foundations Series also provides embedded reading support, explicit reading strategies, and integrated vocabulary support with key words that highlight and define terms. The more open and readable single-column text design also helps students reading at a lower level.

The Essential Questions Journal helps students develop the framework for responses to the Essential Questions.
Students build their understanding and answer journal questions, which shape their response to the overarching unit’s Essential Question. The journal provides the opportunity for students to express their opinions through multiple writing opportunities. The journal also provides a visual explanation and organization of the content.
StudentEXPRESS is the DVD version of the student edition with page-by-page audio that ensures that students have what they need to learn, study, and succeed in the classroom. It also contains an interactive glossary with audio in both English and Spanish and reference resources such as Historical Documents, Supreme Court Glossary, and maps.

The Magruder’s American Government Teacher’s Resource
Library DVD contains all of the same teaching materials found in the online course. It includes the Teacher’s Edition and a wide range of on-level and Foundations Series lesson plans, worksheets, and assessments. The built-in differentiation allows you to pick and choose among the resources that meet the needs of all students.
The American Government: Experience It! Activity Pack is an activity-based and digital program in which students learn about American Government through hands-on activities, simulations, and online interactivities, all centered around the Essential Questions in program. Seven folders contain role cards, maps, charts, newspaper articles and photographs. The Activity Pack also provides a Teacher’s Guide and daily lesson plans for using this resource. The digital interactivities are found in the digital course.
