Issue 2 Spring 2014 Welcome to our second newsletter. We have had a very busy few months since our last newsletter. We enjoyed a visit from John the Animal mania man last September who brought in some very interesting species from his growing collection of rescued animals. His care and dedication to his menagerie is quite remarkable. He brought Tony the Chinchilla, Speedy the Tortoise, Barry the Meerkat, Basil the Asian Palm Civet, and our regular, Tyson the Giant Rabbit. We have also enjoyed several musical events recently, with Paulo Pinto, who has been twice to sing for us. Also David McFegan who plays the Accordion, who provided us with song sheets so we could have a sing-a-long this time. The Reid boys, Caleb, Joel and Ethan entertained us on Christmas Eve with their amazing piano playing. They played some Beethoven, Einaudi, Chopin, Yiruma and much more, They garden so we could do some flower arranging with her. even played one of their own compositions, a duet called ‘Marmalade’. We felt very Brother Clive Martin has given us another chocolate privileged, and are grateful to them all, for giving up some of their holiday! We are having a break from our seated Tai chi class as sister Jo Kitchen has recently had a baby boy. While she is off, we are trying a new exercise class called ‘Progressive Mobility’, Please let me know what you think of it. We look forward to welcoming Jo back soon and hopefully she will bring baby Japheth with her, so we can all have a cuddle! Sister Margaret Harris brought in armfuls of greenery from her demonstration, Yum! The welfare committee and others have also given their time and energy for trips out. These include shopping in Redditch, visits to Notcutts, a classical concert at the Symphony Hall, and a musical, ‘The Lion King ‘at the Hippodrome, all of which were much appreciated and enjoyed by the residents. The ‘Pets as Therapy’ dog Oscar, with his volunteer owner Kelly, are planning to continue visiting Kingsleigh House each month on a Saturday morning, (I will put the forthcoming dates on future activity programmes, but these may be subject to change.) Oscar loves a lot of fuss, so if you are a dog lover, get your treats ready! He is gorgeous! There have been a few changes too. We were all saddened at the falling asleep of brother John Daniel and sister Mary Wesley in October and sister Jean Farmer and sister Ada Jarvie in January and sister Rene Godber in February. We look forward to Gods’ Kingdom, when by his grace; we shall see their smiling faces again. Three of our residents have also moved to Olivet, brother Ivan Sturman, sister Joyce Cross and brother David Hill. But we welcome sister Hilda Margetts and sister Barbara Russell into our ‘family ‘ at Kingsleigh House , we hope they all settle quickly into their new surroundings. Cheryl Lambsdown, Activity Co-ordinator WANTED Have you seen this oversized elf ~~xXx~~ Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. (Ps 119:1-2) Those that travel ‘in the way’ … ‘undefiled’ are ‘blessed (happy), but how may we walk in an ‘undefiled’ fashion? As we tramp through life the dust of this world inevitable sticks to our feet, leaving us soiled & travel worn. Jesus wanted to wash the dust from of the feet of disciples, Peter was told that his salvation depended upon it. We too, who are ‘in Christ’ do not need to be washed all over again & again … but we do need the dust of each days travel washed off by the word of God. Let us ‘keep’ (guard) then his testimonies within us and daily seek him with our whole heart. For we know from Matthew (6:33) that we shall be richly blessed & have all that we need if we make seeking him our top priority (Bro Pete Lambsdown)
