This workshop will focus on various partnerships and collaborations that have impacted students at a variety of grade levels. OSHA 10-hour Safety Training - No Job is Worth a Young Workers Life Every nine minutes, a young person is injured while on the job. CareerSafe’s mission is to deliver Safety Education for America’s Future through interactive, online OSHA safety training courses. Students that complete the course receive an industry recognized credential from OSHA. Young workers will develop a safety mindset and acquire marketable skills for a competitive edge. Credentials for a Digital World Discover how to use industry recognized assessments/certifications to increase career prospects and success in the classroom. Certiport offers Microsoft Office Specialist, Microsoft Technology Associate, Adobe Certified Associate, Autodesk Certified User, Quickbooks Certified User, and IC3. Learn how to become a Certiport Authorized Testing Center and deliver industry certification to students in the classroom. A brief overview of each program will provide insight to how the assessments will work to provide students with an advantage over others in the career field. Successful outcomes from Illinois schools will also be highlighted. How to Create Rigorous Cooperative Summatives Incorporating Unit Learning Targets/Objectives In this session you will give step-by-step approach with examples and interactions on how educators can take their unit objectives and connect them into a summative cooperative activity that meets the rigors of Blooms Taxonomy and the Charlotte Danielson rubric's highest learning levels. Educators are encouraged to bring a unit to work on and instruction will be given on how to incorporate all unit learning targets/objectives. Emphasis will be placed on rubric creation/assessment as well as language development and 'beta' testing. Educators will discuss how to tap into their creative mind and the minds of their students in creating the summative cooperative activity. Teacher created learning vs. student led learning in the development of the cooperative summative will also be discussed. Supply Chain Management: What Educators Need to Know This educational session introduces teachers to Supply Chain Management (SCM). SCM is an area of business that offers endless opportunities and is in high demand from all types of organizations around the world, yet is often overlooked and not taught in secondary education. In this interactive session, teachers will learn about the areas of SCM such as purchasing, transportation, inventory, distribution and risk management. Participants will leave with tools and resources to use in their classrooms. CTE and the Student Performance Component of Teacher Evaluation This Session will examine the student performance component of the teacher evaluation system that will be fully implemented in the 2016-201717 school year. Items discussed will include: what the law actually says, ways to show students’ performance, how CTE teachers can start to plan their performance measures and how teachers can utilize student performance data within their PLC. Identifying Learning Gaps Using Skills Connect Assessment Data Come and experience the SkillsUSA-Skill Connect Assessment and Credentialing System. Useful tips and tools will be shared with participants to identify learning gaps and to improve curriculum from a practitioner's perspective. The tips and resources are applicable to any testing process. This unique media rich assessment system was created by industry and educational partners to validate a student's entry-level knowledge and skills. Teaching to Lead Learn how a collective of career centers in Northern Illinois have partnered to provide professional development to new and seasoned Career & Technical Educators. Utilizing the Southern Regional Education Board's 'Teaching to Lead' program, the Centers are training teachers in four critical areas: Instructional Planning, Instructional Strategies, Classroom Management and Assessment. This session will share an overview of the program and strategies for implementation. Developing our Future Workforce with RealCare Programs Learn how to use the RealCare program to help your students explore careers related to infants in education and human services. This session will explore curricula lessons and program best practices. Help create a lifelong benefit to your students by developing planning and decision making skills while broadening their career considerations. Area Career Centers can offer CTE experiences in an efficient, high quality manner for multiple school districts in a region. This session will highlight the need for increased participation of students in programs at an Area Career Center and present research findings related to factors that influence students to enroll at a career center in central Illinois. Using Public and Media Relations to Promote CTE With preparing lesson plans, meeting State Standards, teaching, and performing classroom assessments, who has time to worry about promoting their CTE program? None of us! However, making the time can play an instrumental role in improving your community's perceptions about CTE and possibly ensuring the future of your program. Consistent, positive contact with community members, local businesses, and the media builds relationships and trust. Positive relationships and trust with your community and local media can even "save your hide" when stress is high and times are tough. We will share tips, tools, and resources to make this manageable for all. Can You Kahoot? Are you looking for a way to have your students excited about pre and post testing? Student Learning Objectives (SLO) have become a way of life. Kahoot is the answer! Students, using mobile devices, can participate in a free interactive game entitled Kahoot that will provide you important data. Basic Skills of Running an Effective Meeting Rules of Parliamentary Law are designed to assist in the smooth, fair, and orderly transaction of business. Working with Paraprofessionals in Lab Settings Amanda Perez (FACS) and Kyle Thomas (Technology Education) will present on best practices when working with paraprofessionals. These best practices include examples to share lab procedures, important information on IEP's, accommodations, and more. We will also go over the best ways to communicate with paraprofessionals and when you should have one in your class. We will discuss how to include them in your classroom and learning environment. New Technology in the Fashion Lab Come and see some of the new equipment and technology available in today’s fashion industry and how you can use your Perkins dollars to help you and students the classroom. The Asian Connection: Films that make Global Agriculture and Textiles Personal This session will focus on films from the AEMS (Asian Educational Media Service) from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign that demonstrates the human impact of the global agriculture and textile markets. 'Cotton Road' traces textile manufacturing from the fields of South Carolina to China and back to the United States. 'Agrarian Utopia' looks at the challenges of sustainable rice production in Thailand, and 'Bitter Seeds' examines farmers in India driven to suicide because of rising seed costs. Discussion will focus on how to use these films and others from AEMS library in the classroom. The content is designed to be used with people between the ages of 17-24, but would be helpful resources to anyone searching for a job. The eight videos have a combined length of one hour and twenty minutes. Each video has follow-along worksheets for notes. The videos are free of charge to educators. Better Brains for Babies Better Brains for Babies (BBB) is a collaboration of state and local, public and private organizations dedicated to promoting awareness and education about the importance of early brain development in the healthy growth and development of infants and young children. Overviews of the nervous system and emerging brain research will be explored in addition to how early interventions by parents and caregivers can impact infants and children. Portfolio Development A portfolio is an organized collection of evidence indicating what a person knows and is able to do regarding a particular academic discipline, topic, or area of occupational competence. Portfolios can provide proof of a learner’s growth and development of higher-order thinking skills and complex concepts: critical thinking, synthesis, problem solving, teamwork, etc. The session focuses on two products: a teacher portfolio to meet and exceed PERA guidelines and requirements and/or the development and testing of a CTE students' course and/or program portfolio to meet and exceed the rigor of national academic and technical content standards. Developing a Dynamic Engineering and Manufacturing Pathway The Manufacturing Career Pathway program provides machining and manufacturing skills needed to obtain careers in the machining job market. Students work on manual mills, lathes, the CNC mill, the CNC lathe, surface grinders, welding simulators and other high tech machinery. While in this program students work towards the NIMS (National Institute of Metalworking Skills), AWS (American Welding Society, or MMSC (Manufacturing Skills Standard Council) credentials and certificates based upon the career pathway the student is entering. Dual Credit agreements are also in place with Harper College and students can earn up to 20 hours. This program is located in a comprehensive high schools that showcases a dynamic public-private partnership with the largest industrial park in North America. Thyssenkrupp Youth Apprenticeship Program Since the 2013-2014 school year, Vermilion County students have been able to participate in a collaborative effort named the Thyssenkrupp Youth Apprenticeship Program. ThyssenKrupp Presta Danville and ThyssenKrupp Crankshaft have partnered with several local entities to build the two apprenticeship programs including The Vermilion Advantage, Danville Area Community College and Vermilion Vocational Education for Employment System. A dual-credit pathway for high school students, developed by these groups offers a broad range of programs from nursing to manufacturing. These courses focus on vocational training to prepare students for entering the workforce upon high school graduation and are the keystone on which ThyssenKrupp’s apprenticeship programs are built. To date, 26 students have participated in the Youth Apprenticeship program which began in 2013.
