assessments and 3. Utilize research proven strategies for using effective formative assessments.
Thyssenkrupp Youth Apprenticeship Program
Since the 2013-2014 school year, Vermilion County students have been able to participate in a
collaborative effort named the Thyssenkrupp Youth Apprenticeship Program. ThyssenKrupp Presta
Danville and ThyssenKrupp Crankshaft have partnered with several local entities to build the two
apprenticeship programs including The Vermilion Advantage, Danville Area Community College and
Vermilion Vocational Education for Employment System. A dual-credit pathway for high school students,
developed by these groups offers a broad range of programs from nursing to manufacturing. These
courses focus on vocational training to prepare students for entering the workforce upon high school
graduation and are the keystone on which ThyssenKrupp’s apprenticeship programs are built.
To date, 26 students have participated in the Youth Apprenticeship program which began in 2013. Two
apprentices are participating in this year’s pilot Mechatronics program.
