Overview
The CEN/CPEN two-day review is designed for nurses preparing for the
Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) and Certified Pediatric Emergency
Nurse (CPEN) examinations, and for any nurse interested in reviewing
the concepts and standards of care necessary for emergency nursing
practice. This review will cover the exam content listed on the Board
of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) website for both the
CEN and CPEN courses.
A variety of formats will be used to present the information, including
lecture and case study presentations. Completion of the review
course cannot guarantee that all participants will pass the certification
exam. It is the responsibility of the individual to take the necessary
time to review and study the topics outlined by the BCEN. It is also
the individual’s responsibility to prepare in advance prior to the review.
The BCEN recommends Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) and
Emergency Nurse Pediatrics Course completions (ENPC), Advanced
Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS) and Sheehy’s
Emergency Nursing Textbook as a means of formulating a study plan
for the CEN. The Core Curriculum for Pediatric Emergency Nursing
is recommended for the CPEN exam.
Testing:
You may sign up for the CEN/CPEN exam on the BCEN website,
bcencertifications.org. A testing site is available in Asheville. You
have the option of testing dates and times. This allows individual
flexibility.
Contact Hours:
Contact hours (CE’s) will be awarded for the two-day courses.
