Important note to students: It is important that you attend the lecture for the section that
you registered for. Each section – including lectures/exams/quizzes – is prepared and
coordinated independently. Exam dates and the material you would be responsible for will
vary at the discretion of the lecturer.

Lectures: MTWTh 9:00-10:50, SEC 111
Recitations: TWTh H1: 8:00-8:50 & H2: 11:00-11:50. Recitation room assignments will be
announced on the first day of lecture. Attendance at your assigned recitation is mandatory
and will be considered when assigning grades.
Text Book: L.G. Wade Jr. Organic Chemistry (7th edition) is required; however the study guide
& models are optional. The package under ISBN055874799X sold by RU bookstores is a
good buy. Clickers/web-assign will not be used.
Homework: Assigned homework will not be graded but highly recommended. We’ll be
covering materials at an incredible speed, some test/quiz questions will be based on HW.
Please read ahead as we will not have much time to spend on questions during the lecture.
Exams: All exams are closed book. Use/presence of any electronic device of any kind is
prohibited during exams and will result in an automatic grade of 0. Molecular models can be
used but not shared. You must bring your Rutgers Photo-ID to the exam. It will be
checked individually. Both midterms and the final will be held in the lecture room SEC 111
and during the lecture hours. Additional rooms will be announced if necessary. Exam
questions will consist of multiple choice questions and a written portion where partial credit
will be given. Practice Exams and their keys will be posted on Sakai.

Midterm Exam I (Chapters 15, 16, 17 parts)*: Monday July 23rd, , 9:00AM
o Review for Exam I: Thursday, July 19th, SEC 111, 1:30PM-3:00PM

Midterm Exam II (Chapters 18, 20, 21)*: Monday August 6th, 9:00AM
o Exam Review: Thursday, August 2nd, SEC 111, 1:30PM-3:00PM

Final Exam (comprehensive): Wednesday August 15th, 9:00AM-12:00PM
o Final Review: During lecture Tuesday August 14th, 9:00AM-11:50AM

progresses along. Please check sakai site and pay attention to announcements in class.
Missed/Conflict Exams: All exams must be taken at the scheduled times and places.
If you fail to take an exam/quiz, you must provide a proof of a valid excuse accepted at the
discretion of the instructor or you will receive a grade of 0 for that quiz/exam. Since all
exams will be administered during the lecture, there should be no conflict with exams.
However the final extends 1 hr beyond the lecture time. If you have a class or any conflict,
you must email me ASAP. If for some reason you can’t take the final on the last day of class
please see me immediately.
Students with Disabilities: If you have a disability, please see the lecturer before 7/11/12
to make the necessary arrangements. In addition, arrangements must be made for the
lecturer to receive a letter by 7/11/12 from your College's Disability Concerns Coordinator
at Disability Services (732-932-2848 or dsoffice@rci.rutgers.edu) before the first quiz.

Online Resources: We’ll be using Sakai site (http://sakai.rutgers.edu/) frequently to post
grades, handouts, problems, exams, keys etc. If there are questions that I get emailed about
frequently, I’ll post my answer in the announcement section and ask you to refer to it. I will
also post additional practice problems on Sakai, please check the site frequently There are
already materials posted on the site. You can access Sakai with your NetID.

Quizzes: 5 quizzes (20 points each) will be given during the recitation sections: July 12th,
July 19th, July 26th, Aug. 2nd, and Aug 9th. Your lowest quiz grade will be dropped at the time
of grading. Additional maximum of 20 points will be assigned based on attendance at
recitations. The quizzes will be graded by the recitation instructors. Any questions on the
quiz grades please see your recitation instructor.
Grading: No grades are assigned per exam/quiz, only at the end of the course. The
final grade will be determined based on the total points accumulated by the individual in
comparison to the total points accumulated by the rest of the class. As a guideline, average
on a midterm is a C+. Attendance will be considered when assigning grades to borderline
students. All scores, mock exams and their keys, and any additional pertinent information
will be posted on sakai.

