GLOBAL HEALTH PROGRAMME: 300 WOMEN LEADERS IN GLOBAL HEALTH 1 300 WOMEN LEADERS IN GLOBAL HEALTH In November 2014, Ilona Kickbusch, director of the Global Health Programme at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, launched a Twitter campaign aimed at showcasing female leadership in global health. Using the hashtag #WGH100, Twitter users sent nominations of women working at the forefront of global health from around the world. The 100 Women Leaders in Global Health list was published on December 15th, 2014 and enjoyed tremendous reach across social media. This profile was further increased when the Lancet published the feature “Twitter campaign highlights top women in global health”, which led to further nominations of female leaders to be included on such a list. The hashtag #WGH200 was created as a result and greatly surpassed its target, demonstrating the remarkable response in highlighting the work of women in this domain. In this expanded list, we have included the first 300 nominations compiled of the many women leaders nominated and among innumerable others working to promote global health. Going forward, we encourage this list’s participants, nominees, and audience to continue to recognise women leaders and ensure that this diversity is reflected in all discussions and decisions shaping global health. The women listed are ordered alphabetically by surname with affiliations taken directly from Twitter profiles or third-party sources. Many women were nominated multiple times, though only the initial nominator is noted. An asterisk (*) denotes those who appeared on the original 100 Women in Global Health list. All Twitter usernames and bitly links are hyperlinked for easy reference. # Woman Leader in Global Health Nominated by 1 Melanie Abas* Khameer Kidia @kkidia @melanieabas Research, clinical work and training in global mental health, King’s College London 2 Hawa Abdi* @DHAFoundation Through the Fire @storyofcourage Founder and chairperson of the Dr. Hawa Abdi Foundation, human rights activist and physician 3 Alayne Adams @AdamsAlayne Ophira Ginsburg @OphiraG Professor, James P. The Global Health Programme builds capacity by engaging in research, knowledge translation and diffusion as well as by conducting extensive executive training in global health diplomacy for and with major stakeholders in Geneva and worldwide. The Global Health Programme is also unique as a research institution integrated into an institute of international relations and development.
